Agreed, why is training people harder than training a dog...
We have a discussion with people before they come in our house or meet our pup.

    Yeah.
This is what we did with our shibas, but they are naturally very "mouthy" dogs. Our young female still wants to put her mouth on you, but now she just holds your arm in her mouth softly. Our older male still gets a little rough when I play with him, but he only plays like that with me. I let him know when he gets too rough, and switch to a rope or tug toy. He's funny, when I get home from work or someone visits that he hasn't seen in a while (and likes), he goes and finds a bone and brings it to you -- not sure if that is just to have something in his mouth or he's bringing a welcome gift. When they play with each other, they are very dramatic about letting the other one know when things get too rough, so we just do the same.

Anyone ever had CCL issues with a puppies knees?
Just over 3 months in and Bane injured his CCL (from what the vet can tell without X-rays it's his knee)
He's on a weeks worth of maloxin and bed rest....:(

Dang. That's the weim you just got isn't it? Sorry to hear that. I was convinced my dog tore his a few months ago when he fell off an 8 foot rock wall. Fortunately he just bruised it we later figured out, but his symptoms were exactly the same as an ACL tear (based on at home diagnosis). In the meantime I had researched quite a bit to figure out what we'd do. Seems like there is two separate surgeries if thats on the table for you. One has a really good success rate. I'd research like crazy if I were you. If i was opting to do the surgery, I would be extra picky about who did it and make sure they've done lots before I agreed. With him being so young, I wonder if they want him to develop more, or if they'll be able to do it while he's still growing? Those legs and joints are going to change a ton over the next few months. Good luck with what you decide.

Ya that's him.. I should know better than to get or do anything.. I seem to have the worst luck with anything I buy or do. Hoping he just strained it, vet feels confident it's strained, but he seems worse today. No way they would preform surgery at this age, like you said, development issues. Thanks for the input, glad your pup got off lucky!!

    Yeah.
When did it happen? Soft tissue injuries typically get a little worse the first couple of days before they start getting better, he's probably just really sore. Think positive -- he's young, and with good care and nutrition will likely heal up quickly and fine.

8 years ago or so, one of our Brussels, Milo, developed an immune condition where his body was killing off all his red blood cells. He came out of his pen one morning and just fell over. They did 2 transfusions and put him on immunosuppressants and steroids, and said he would need to be on them the rest of his life. He quickly recovered but was eating 3 times his normal food and just burning through it and still not gaining weight. His blood work looked good and he was active, but he seemed cranky (roid rage?), so we weened him off of all the medication (the vet didn't totally agree, but was informed and went along with it as long as he was doing better). He returned to normal and is still with us at 13 and super healthy, no meds. Well, other than his messed up teeth -- I call him Meth Mouth Milo.

Anyway, your pup needs your positive energy, love and support! Follow the vets instructions, he'll get through it.

Been a while since I posted in here, but here is our newest pup. She was thrown out of a car, and my Wife stopped and picked her up. We took her to the vet, treated her, and since she seemed to get along with our current idiots, we kept her. First picture is when my wife picked her up.

    Yeah.
Good on you, but these stories irk me. That person should be thrown out of a window. I've found that dogs are pretty good judges of character -- if my dogs like you, you are probably OK. If they don't, you likey have some issues. That person was obviously an asshat, the dog knew it, and they didn't get along.

Gabby seems to have this crazy desire to kill the UPS guy. Ive tried for years to convince her that HE is the one who brings us cool stuff, but it hasn't worked.

Fingers crossed it's just a sprain. Like the comment after mine. Mine was absolutely worse the 2nd and 3rd day after the accident, but gradually got better. Especially once he was on rimadyl. I hope your situation is similar.

We will try that as well. Trainer told us to say in a “fun” voice: “Fun’s over!!” and put her in the crate for two minutes each time she nips us. When we let her out she’s generally calm and won’t do it again unless she gets riled up.

i would highly suggest not using her crate for punishment. That should be their safe space and not a place of punishment. It can make crating her later on a problem. The "OUCH" method as previously stated here has worked well for us. Our 10 month old pit is someone mouthy, or was. He's doing much better using the "OUCH" method.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I second this. Although it can be used as a "time out" that is a fine line. Use OUCH, NO, etc, and get up and turn your back, and walk away. No other communication or attention for a period of time. We used the peanut butter trick during happy times to teach her "nice", and ignoring her during the bad times. Now ignoring her rarely happens, just a "nice" will change her attitude.

And this works? And I've been a dick or pushy about it. But I feel like if I had a nickel for every time it was addressed, and ignored, I'd be retired.
