It is listed in various "New car features" on the Toyota TIS web site. I've been wanting to renew my subscription, if this happens, I'll grab a copy.

Nah. Just argue it respectfully. Not TW dumpster fire.

In the end, if the vids and pics are not enough proof, I have seen others where the wheel rim is torn from the hub before it intrudes on the footwell.

I'm just happy to have a safe truck that seems to do extremely well in the real world also.

So there is no need for a cab mount if you have a plate bumper? asking for a friend

The dreaded 20% and 40% overlap test. You should see some of the other trucks go through this same test, they almost flip over

That view of the back seat of the double cab in side impact made be think of my son back there

I would enjoy seeing tests of that. Did ARB ever post theirs?

This is a 2016 Dodge, the first year of the third gen. The driver will possibly lose a leg in this crash

Compare the Toyota to that Dodge, thats Crazy! In each test the cabin of the Taco seems mostly intact. The Ram it looks like that wheel is all the way in the cab.

I am sure they spent time designing to keep that tire out on the 3rd Gen, unfortunately when my old 1st Gen hit a tree the drivers side tire bent the frame and shoved the floor all the way up to the clutch pedal.

The cab mount on a Tacoma serves two purposes, which is why it is both the shape and length that it is:

    1-mount the cab
2-keep the wheel out of the cabin in a crash.

It’s not disputable or open for debate, unless your skull is malformed and your brain never fully developed as a result. Pinheads everywhere, tell me I’m wrong.

That crash test is incredibly impressive IMO, the driver door is almost entirely unscathed, looks like there wasn't hardly any cabin intrusion at all. This is the real killer right here, head on impact on driver side with the pressure concentrated on a tiny corner of the vehicle. Makes me appreciate that big beefy cab mount.

For all the “cab-mount as crash-barrier” doubters, below are some pictures I just took in the front wheel well of my 2018 F150. One if the big factors in wheel intrusion and the desirable ‘glancing’ of the vehicle in a crash is the distance between the wheel and the cab (see page 6 of the paper below for a study of the affects of the gap between the wheel and the front of the frame in transverse and longitudinal engine cars)

    https://www-esv.nhtsa.dot.gov/proceedings/24/files/24ESV-000244.PDF

Ideally, and perhaps counterintuitively, you want the distance between the wheel and frame minimized. To achieve crash-worthiness on the F150, Ford had to add these “wheel intrusion barriers”, or, if you will, “false cab mounts”. They serve no structural purpose, they are just there to catch the wheel in a crash.

Nah. I cut mine as much as you can.

    Plate bumper > cab mounts.
