i have searched for a overhead mount to fit a 3rd generation Tacoma to fit a SwitchPro

$659 SP-9100 8-Switch Panel Power System With Concealed Mounting Hardware

SP-9100 switch panel and at the current time no one offers it. So I have a friend designing one to take the place of the sunglasses holder. Here’s the initial rendering he sent and the only mistake I can see is that the large hole for the wiring pigtail is on the wrong end of the mount.

If there is any interest I will be providing a free STL file once completed to be used with your 3D printer of choice. A initial print will be coming shortly.

Good idea I never considered that. Was originally going to post it at my web site but Thingyverse would work way better in my opinion.

Man I hate Creo, hopefully you don't have to use it every day.

 

I’m going to assume Creo is some form of CAD program. I can do a lot of things but CAD isn’t one, and that’s where my buddy comes in thankfully. All I did was hand him my overhead console, switch panel, gave him a couple of suggestions and turned him loose.

 

Ah gotcha hah, yeah Creo is the CAD software shown in your picture. Your buddy's a good resource, buy him lots of beer

 

Actually I have some distillery equipment at Northside Distillery about 4 hours from me. They have won awards from the American Distillers Association for making some of the finest vodka known to man in our Copper Flutes (Game Changers) so I think he has his sights set a bit higher than beer.

 

Probably better than what I'm using (tinker cad). I can't bring myself to pay for fusion 360 for my 1hr/wk that I sketch stuff.

 

As long as you're not making over 100k a year from using fusion 360, it's free. I use the hobbyist license at home. We use Creo at work though.

 

looks good. Only suggestion would be to round all the edges out.
How are you mounting?

 

I figured a lip for a bead of silicone since there is no real weight involved. This is the printing position for the test print to minimize supports.

 

So you're mounting from the inside out? If so, I'd be worried even with silicone, it would eventually push up since you're pushing up with the buttons. Maybe you can mount it with tabs?

A friend of mine used to build 120 gallon salt water aquariums and the only thing that held the thick glass together was a bead of silicone. Water weighs a little over 8 pounds a gallon x roughly 100 = 800 pounds. How hard can you press with your finger? If you want to put screws in it, or use epoxy there will be a provision but it won’t be needed in my opinion, and hey I’ll be the 1st tester

 

Ran a test print for fit and all was going well until the printer fan took a dump. Murphey’s Law applies

 

This was the first full print done in coarse, PLA, for a size check. I’m going to take a good look at this tomorrow in the overhead console as I’m thinking the viewing angle of the panel needs to be steeper. I know, I know but I used red because that’s what I had most of and it shows blemishes better.

 

This test print is not mounted but I wanted to snap it together to check the fit. I’m satisfied with the fact that the switch panel face will end up flush but the angle of the panel doesn’t suit me at all once placed overhead. So we are going to make the 2nd print much steeper to see how it compares.
