Nice work so far! I wish I could apply this but I have an OR. Still, something like this but perhaps for a touchscreen connected to a Raspberry Pi would be awesome.

How about a hinged tray to adjust viewing angle and to stow?:stirthepot:

Actually thought about that since I started playing around with Raspberry’s some time back. A Raspberry Pi runs my 3D printer and I can control it via OctoPrint on my iPad or IPhone. I really like the LCD screens that couple to them. Uses could be limited only by your imagination when it comes to vehicles.

What I'd love is something like a Switch Pro but done with a Raspberry Pi. I like the idea of using software to translate to electrical signals to control all manner of fused and relayed accessories, rather than being limited to 8 or so. Plus, I want to make my own software, not rely on someone else's.

Who knows maybe SwitchPros uses a similar concept. I mean the panel is programmable and even uses Bluetooth so your cell or iPad can control it remotely. There’s a lot of adjustability to that panel.

Originally I was going to build a panel myself but have a tendency to over-engineer everything I start. Factor in that there are always a lot of projects started here at any given time, that said the SwitchPros SP-9100 was my best solution even with the higher cost involved. I look at a product like a switch panel, grill, wheels, wrap, or whatever and ask myself if I really want to add that item to a $40,000. Tacoma. In most cases you really do get what you pay for IMHO.

Do you own one of these mounts? If so does the sunglasses holder block the rear view mirror? I know you can fold it up but then you have no status of the switch unless you lower it again, correct? When you press on a switch does the sunglasses holder move or flex?

You're not wrong. It'd be a bit of an undertaking to make my own Raspberry Pi mechanism. It'd need a custom PCB, lots of wires, and the software. But I do like a challenge. In theory, this would work for more than the 8 switches that the Switch Pro provides (don't know if they make a version/add-on to control more). I'd love to collaborate on that but I'll back off so I don't jack your thread.

Made the viewing angle steeper and narrowed the enclosure.

This is the final design and we made the angle of the panel steeper so it would be easy to read. We also made the enclosure as shallow as possible so as to block the rear view mirror as little as necessary. Printed a test print in PLA and the fit was good. We are now printing in ABS and if all is still good the STL will be posted at Thingiverse. Once that has been done I’ll put the link here and if you want to print one for yourself that’s fine.

Wasn’t happy with the way our print mated to the overhead console. The angles have now been changed to rectify that. The width of the mount itself was also narrowed to make it look cleaner. Lastly we increased the depth of the 2 bosses on the short ends of the print so the mount could be snapped into the overhead console and 2 hidden screws will hold it in place.

I printed just the very bottom half so you can get an idea of what I have described. Next i’ll Print it fully in black ABS, get it mounted and take a few shots to post. Instructions will be included.

This is NOT the file we posted to Thingiverse, it will be available soon.

Well after a bunch of tweaks here's the final design. I'm not crazy about Thingiverse so I'll be posting this at one of my websites shortly. then if you want to do your own thing you can download the file for your own printer. i printed mine in ABS on a Creality CR-10S

a lot can happen in 3 years.

for instance, you can't even purchase Sprengboard led dome light boards anymore.

but i've still got the sticker from mine!
