Well crap. They're still refusing to send me another before I return mine- which leaves me without a cap for probably two months after I already spent close to $3k for this POS. I have been complaining about some issues since the day after purchase and as I've had it for 5-6 months, leaks have started to spring from about everywhere. Did they send you a replacement without demanding you return your other cap first?

I was warned not to buy a Snugtop from our local dealer in SLC. They quoted me an absurd amount for it as I don't think they want to sell any. I purchased elsewhere but evidently, I should have listened to their warning.

How do these mounts. I am going to look at one this weekend but have a mx4 tonneau cover.

If I decide to get it, does the shell install easily after I remove the tonneau? I can do the wiring later

The bottom plate of the shell has 4 spots that overhang the bed rails inside. Each of those has a bolt that threads into a plate that hooks the bed rail and tightens the cap down onto the double bulb gasket.

It has a finger sized gap in the rear door where it is supposed to seal with weatherstripping along the tailgate. Only the very sides of the rear door and weatherstripping touch the tailgate. It is anything but sealed when closed. Otherwise it seems great. I have contacted the mfg and will go back to the dealer tomorrow to try and troubleshoot. I have seen several snug top rebels on here so I just though I would see if anyone else had the same issues. Thanks!

Is it mounted too far back or not match the curve of the tailgate?

It seems to be mounted correctly when you look at the front and it does seem like it does not match the curve of the tailgate.

I had to have my cab high replaced as the sides were bowed out 3/4" on each side. The replacement top is better but still has issues. Snugtop quality has gone down the toilet. This is the third Snugtop I've owned and the fit and finish is crap compared to the others. I would not put up with the bad fit. Talk to your dealer.

Snugtop, lift, Prinsu Rack and lead foot.
I purchased a Rebel Snugtop from Potter's Caps near Kansas City in Blue Springs, MO. I have had the cap for about 2 months now. The cap has windoors, front sliding drop down, tracks, power rear lock, outdoorsman roof and tracks. I love the cap and my only complaint is waiting more than 10 years to get a canopy. The installers had put some kind of putty likematterial on the gaps between the bed and the top of the bed behind the cab. They said it is common for the bulb seal not to conform in that tight space and the wind of driving with water can be forced into the back at that point. So far I have not had any leaks and the shell works great for getting out of the rain. At a soccer game recently I put the kids in the back during a lightning storm that had 45 MPH winds to wait out the storm and they even liked it. I really like how the tan cap does not have a snugtop sticker on the side. Very nice and slick.

Oh it's still an active thread. Just patiently waiting on my replacement sport hiliner to arrive. The old one had so many issues it was stupid. Leaks from the windows and the third brake light, the fiberglass was wavy on the sides, 1" gaps on the sides that I could fit my thumb in, paint coming off, weatherstripping peeling off, and to boot the cap was too small front to back out of the mold so it scratched paint off all four outside corners of my truck bed. I'm hoping the replacement sucks less. Maybe they've hired a decent QC person? Not sure what they're gonna do about my missing paint.

When I took ownership of my ‘14 the latch on the Rebel didn’t catch the hook on the driver’s side. It took some fiddling with the cable length to get it to work.

Greetings all, first post on this forum. Thanks to everyone.

Just bought a new Rebel for my '19 Taco. Came in today... Right off the bat, I'm having same issues as OP w/ regards to the 1"+ overhang... Have owned a Snugtop in the past and never seen anything like this. Going back to dealer tomorrow to see what they say... I definitely can't hang :) Snugtop-not-so-snug.

I went with this option primarily for the sportsman package and good experiences in past. In my opinion, it's a pretty serious manufacturers defect. It definitely seems as though Snugtop missed the 3rd Gen Taco boat. Big time. Anyone with an attention for detail should be cautioned; it's such a dramatic overhang that it almost covers up the TRD decals and throws off the lines. Just my opinion but this is total nonsense.

Are there other brands/models that can support 500+ lbs? I've had LEER and ARE in the past on 2nd Gen Taco's and they fit well but never much in the weight bearing dept. I need sliding windows in the back for dogs and a hardshell RTT to be supported. Thanks in advance.

I was really looking forward to getting a SnugPro cap for my Taco, but it looks like all the brands are sub-par junk these days. I guess I'll just get a Softopper.

I don’t think this is a good representation. Lots of people get toppers and are happy. Not many threads complaining. And the community here is so small compared to the millions that own Tacoma’s.

Just don’t go in expecting OEM style quality, but my snug top has been what I expected and works great.

The lip is there for a reason, it's the decals that are wrong.

With my luck I'd end up with every issue reported on this thread. Softopper and some kind of bed rack is looking more and more tempting.

Reading Tacoma World forum prior to buying my truck almost resulted in me not buying one for this same reason

Sorry man. Same issue with the Sport HiLiner (and then some- leaks, paint, wavy fiberglass, and more). Snugtop probably won't do anything for you, if you're lucky they'll want it back for evaluation and you'll be without one for 6-8 weeks like me (despite paying over $3k for it). I didn't go Leer or ARE because they didn't offer a mid-rise with keyless entry on the rear window (coupled with the pop-n-lock for the tailgate it's all auto). I kinda wish I would have. They don't seem to have the same 1" overhang (as well as 1" wide gaps on either side over the wheels) and look a lot better. I hope you can get something worked out- keep us posted please!

Keep it real guys, virtually every item ever sold has had flaws in a measurable percentage of them. It doesn't mean every single one had each and every one of the flaws. Some things require a return or exchange but often it's more practical to just deal with it while even more often problems stem from user incompetence breaking something that could easily have been fixed instead.

You get more satisfaction out if life by dealing with it than complaining about it.

    Hello!
I'm thinking about picking up a Snugtop shell for my '16 Tacoma. Very limited choices here where I live. Can someone with a Cab-Hi, Rebel, or Xtra Vision measure the height from the front edge of the tailgate (when it's open) to the glass? I use the tailgate as a workbench of sorts and need about 40" of height clearance. Thanks in advance...I'd really appreciate it. Dealer, of course, was unable to provide this info.
