This clutch pedal sucks — what’s wrong?

Folks, my 2nd gen Tacoma clutch engagement point is wacky. When I bought the truck in March, the engagement point was very high on the pedal throw, which makes the drive very jolting and probably bad for the clutch to be dumping it.

I adjusted the screw in the pedal box and it is better now, but first gear is always a mystery: “Am I gonna release the pedal well, or is the truck going to rumble and sputter?”

I know how to drive a stick, but this pedal is kicking my ass. I feel like I’m 16 all over again. (Queue the horror music)

Is there a chance that the clutch fork or slave cylinder is sticking or something, making the engagement point unpredictable? Or, do I need to readjust the screw on the pedal box again? Last time I checked, I had made it as short as possible.

Truck has 96,000 miles and is otherwise perfect. Help me before I decide to sell this truck on account of not being able to drive it.

I should also say that a week ago I sprayed lithium grease on the fork behind the rubber boot on the transmission, and it took care of my squeaking clutch pedal. The engagement point, however, is still wacky.

There is a mechinism that buffers the fluid. The friction point can be very annoying. There is a mod to remove the buffer from the fluid path. Would link you but I lost the link. Maybe some helpful person will come along and share it with both of us. Lol

Dude, anything would be helpful. This truck would be the bomb if it weren't for this clutch pedal. I'll wait to see who else replies. :)

You're referring to the ADM or clutch Accumulator Delete Mod. I haven't done it but it should help with consistency of the clutch actuation.

Also, it seems to act up more on certain days. I just give it a little more gas than I usually would. Sucks bogging down when you want to shoot that traffic gap. Lol

Not any different on my 3rd gen. Pulling out into traffic, always have it in my mind "hope today is one of those days where it hooks and chirps the tires", bbbbbooooooooogggggggggggggg. Nope, "oh well", as the guy behind goes around expecting to see a 90 y.o. man.

The slight delay from the wireless throttle plays into that too. Have to give it gas a split second sooner than with other manuals.

    Little bit of stuff.
I can attest to the Accumulator Delete being a solid improvement in clutch pedal feel, as well as making for a more consistent grab point.

have you tried bleeding your line?
when I did my clutch job, we bled the line and hoooooo doggy was that shiz nasty!!! First clutch replacement ever, so I have reason to believe it was never bled since the factory. Also the clutch shares the resivor with the brakes. so is that low on fluid? could you have air in the line?

when I was beading the clutch, I had to pull up on the clutch pedal depending on if the bleeder valve was open or closed

Just a quick question to all: can someone confirm that this delete is an option for those of us in 2nd gen tacoma's with the 5 speed? I'll go looking under later, but I'd like to know that this applies to me, too.

    Thanks!

I can't, as I'm a 1GR 6spd but I would venture a guess that the clutch hydraulics are very similiar

Fluid levels are fine, and were bled when I did the brakes. I can bleed the from the slave cylinder to be sure. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if that does anything for me.

Can the throttle response be improved somehow? Is it wireless/electronic for an 07 Base 2.7L 5 speed? I would have thought it would be drive-by-wire...?
