I bought it from a Russian surplus dealer. He even threw in 15,000 rounds of ammo, so I should have enough for at least 8 seconds of firing. It is “plug and play” using the towing package 4 pin connector. Hit the trailer brakes and fwammo. Not sure if it fits a second Gen.

They also have a twin barrel version for fellas who want to keep their rigs light.

I'd rather see one with a leaf spring instead. That's how bumpers used to be made and how bumper cars at the amusement park still are.

I'm not understanding all the "your frame is going to get bent / the sky is falling mentality here" as the step devise and the very substantial 1/4" tubular steel hitch assembly (#6 below) that's bolted to the frame side rails is most likely going to crumble on impact prior to any impact being transferred to the frame side rails. The hitch assembly actually acts as the frame's rear cross member. Even if the frame side rails were to get bent, seems it wouldn't be difficult to straighten.

On a hard enough impact the frame will bend anyway.

What I’m saying is the step or anything else you have sticking out will act like a lever so it will take less force to bend the frame.
On impact the step is going to want to torque left, right,up,or down. Ever put a cheater bar on a stubborn bolt? Same concept.

So on a 15mph impact without the step the bumper/ bodywork gets messed up
But with the step the bumper/bodywork gets messed up and the frame gets bent.

It really doesn’t matter to me I just wanted to inform you of the possibility

Looks like that sedan got sandwiched. Did they get rear ended before or after impact with you?

@5nahalf, your video is pretty much 90% of all wrecks, slow moving and someone just trying to be in a hurry, the other 10% are the ones where people never hit the brakes because they aren't paying attention ( running lights and stop signs) parking lot fender benders or some 16 yr old texting while driving won't hurt your truck if you have a steel bumper or harpoon coming from the back of your truck as some call it, anyone with a 3rd GEN before you put all your eggs into the "toyota will protect me basket" take your rear bumper off and when you realize its literally plastic with a thin metal plate which only gives it rigidity and nothing more, throw all 9 pieces away and buy yourself something that won't shatter when a 80 yr old lady waits 1 second to long to stop and bumps into the back of you, as for all the theories and math lessons sweet you know math but at the end of the day unless you a bullet proof whip no matter how much armor, lift, or lowered with or without a harpoon your screwed if they are going 45 or more, safety related items are more of a precaution for the worst and are very helpful but when its less than 20 mph ( which is most of wrecks) just know you will be out time, and energy for someone elses mistakes and in case no one has looked it up, had to have it fixed, or broke one a factory bumper is WAY more than a real bumper...if my truck gets totaled from a wreck because i have a steel bumper, cool thats why they make more everyday and thats why i pay for full coverage insurance

I actually really wanted the girl to hit my truck, her hood would of gone right under me just damaging my bumper... but with the insurance money I could of gotten that nice new metal bumper Ive had my eyes on :)
I told my self I wont buy a plate bumper till my factory bumpers have been hit.

That looks like it might be a good tailgater deterrent.

Google found this one for me. I don't understand everything that they're saying, but it looks like it would work.

Now when you get hit,you will be dealing with a bent frame and a totaled truck, instead of just some scratches.

My neighbor up the street has the best idea to eliminate a rear threat... on his '03 Tundra.

He has an 18 wheeler air horn mounted behind the rear bumper (invisible from outside the truck). He has a horn button mounted below the steering wheel within easy reach, where no one expects.

When needed to wake up a tailgater or someone advancing too close, he hits the button which scares the begeezes out of all vehicles within 30 yards...however, no one knows where the thunder came from and all are now wide awake looking around for that Mack truck...especially the tailgater or someone advancing too close. I think he paid less than $50 new on eBay and easy hook up. I am looking into doing that myself on my truck and my wife Prius!

Personally I think it is the best idea on this entire thread!!!

That's Freaking Awesome. Going to get a horn for the Tacoma and our Mazda MX5. You have to be on your toes all the time while driving something so small. Just glad I learned to drive a motorcycle, the driving habits stick with you no matter what you drive.
Thanks for this one, really made my laugh at the possibility of someone dropping a load in their pants while looking for the Semi.

Not likely and even if the frame rails do bend truck won't necessarily be totaled, will just need the rails strengthen. The hitch assembly is actually the frame cross member.
