Redlands is definitely not where I would want to be in CA. Agree that there is too much concrete and not enough country. But the ocean is beautiful and I love the beaches. It's too expensive now though and the political environment is becoming intolerable...

You'd like the hunting here too. I don't hunt but my brothers do. Next time I go to my little brother's house I'll take pics of his wall trophies

I seen a Toyota dealership there on the news, the owner thought that 90% of his vehicles were a total loss.

SW NM is stunning. Really, most of the state is.

    Story time:

I grew up in SE Arizona, just south of I10. I was in high school...can't remember which year exactly but it was in the early years...and my friend and I went with his dad to a camping trip in the mountains that border NM. His dad had an older, busted Ranger. We were off-roading, before I knew what off-roading really was. My buddy and I were in the bed of the truck ping-ponging everywhere while his dad drove, drinking Bud Lights the whole time and throwing the empties into the bed.

We found some primitive camping, but we were surrounded by other people. So we decide to go farther...farther than the truck could really handle. We get to a tricky spot...I have no idea if the truck was 4x4...and started to spin out. He kept trying to get up that berm, though. Until the truck went halfway off what I would learn much later was a shelf road. So here we are...my friend and I on the right side of the bed trying to counterbalance, his dad chilling in the driver's seat looking at what likely would have been death. The whole time, though, he's barking orders while simultaneously drinking Buds. My friend and I ran down to the previous campers to get help. They came up, but it was clear that it was a lost cause. We pulled the gear out, counter-balanced the truck the best we could, and daddo went through the passenger side to get out. Once we let go, the truck went right down. Luckily, it hit a tree and was stopped.

That night, my buddy and I though it would be a good idea to take the dried chilies that his dad got from Hatch and light them on fire to smoke ourselves out of the tent. Then we decided to eat the rest of them. I was in the campsite bathroom for almost 2 hours the next morning. Spent the rest of the morning watching a tow rig pull the truck up. Truck still worked, and we went home unscathed.

Moral of the story: don't drink Bud Light.

We had a tornado a few miles from my house (the Augusta, Mo tornado) and then that the next night. Jeff City is only 100 miles from the house. A lot can change in a storm in 100 miles, but still closer than I like.
