Just saw this over at DR...

M.O.R.E. Racing met with the BLM and it looks like the government agency is leaning towards the end of local Mojave Desert races.

This may be the first step towards shutting down the desert altogether, so if you are a supporter of the race scene, please take some time to contact the Bureau of Land Management and express your concerns.

Please be civil when you contact the BLM.

Why? because people got killed at the races? That's why they started putting fences at the nascar tracks. People will always want to get close to the action. Instead of closing it down, define the tracks better and put up barriers to keep the people back.

Btw prayers out to all the families that either lost someone or got injured.

The race promoters have to take some responsiabilty for what happened. The crowds were just way too close to the course. It is good to hear that the driver will not be Charged with anything. He'll never forget that race

It is an open desert race... people come to watch... they don't pay to watch... the racers are racing machine against the desert, not to entertain viewrs, like NASCAR or drag racing does.

People need to use some judgement on keeping a safe distance back from the course to watch safely... You can't fence the desert... You can't fix stupid... It is a sad thing what happened and if they stayed the recommended distance (100') back from the course, nobody would be dead or injured.

It will probably mean the end of the sport in the USA... People have been killed in Mexico at races as well, but there they know why they got killed and consider it personal responsibility.

Very crappy of them, maybe they should wait to make a decision on this after the investigation is done? Typical overreaction.

Another example of why you need to be careful on who you vote into the game of politics...

...someone that believes in personal responsibility or someone that believes they know better than you do.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Email sent, too bad as with many things in life a few idiots can spoil it for everyone. With all the news coverage I am afraid BLM will act to stop the races due to safety issues. As bad as I feel for the families and friends who lost someone without better regulations it was inevitable.
That said hopefully BLM does not rush to a bad decision.

BLM has been waiting a long time for something like this to happen.
They'll shut it down to any OHV types in the name of 'preservation' , then after some time auction off the land to the highest bidding corporation / home builder company to mow it over and build on. All the while getting more tax dollars to 'maintain' these areas.

But.. its highly doubtful it will happen considering the off road community overwhelms BLM interest or any Sierra Clubs segway to use the incident at Lucerne to shut down our beloved desert areas.

When i heard about this, the first thing that came to mind was how stupid are those people for standing so close to a track? It puts a lot of pressure on the drivers to avoid things like this..... If they aren't focused then accidents happen. It's like standing right next to a NASCAR track without the fences, if cars wreck and get air borne they are gonna go flying in what direction that they are in. An accident like this was inevitable, no way to fence the desert. When a few people die from something like this that's been going on for years, everything gets shut down and ruins the fun for everyone else. My prayer's go out to the families, no one deserves to die.
