285/75/r16 & rubbing

Just got 285/75/r16 tires put on my truck at 4WP. I had a 2.25" leveling kit installed a few weeks back - https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/trail-master-2-25-leveling-lift-kit-tm592/_/R-DHGR-TM592

I told them I would rub and they said a 1.25" spacer would prevent rubbing - well it didn't. I took it back last week and they did a cab mount chop only on the driver side - it's still rubbing. I have another appointment with them tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me what they can do to prevent rubbing? Will a 3" lift prevent rubbing?

I'm still new to this stuff so any help would be appreciated.

did they trim the plastic in front of the cab mount?

 

They did not charge me for the cab mount chop because they said it would not rub with the 1.25" spacers.

No plastic was trimmed.

 

Get a GOOD alignment. I rubbed at the front and then trimmed about an inch of plastic and no rubbing.

 

Need to cut Plastic and pinch weld. What's caster at? As far as I know spacers only help with rubbing at the UCA.

They rep also told me that they will swap out to 265/75/r16 if I want to go that route.

 

I would get your alignment, and tell the guy you want your caster set more negative, this will reduce how much the tire moves backward in the wheel well when the suspension is compressed, assuming you're still rubbing on the cab mount. I would recommend against cutting too much of the cab mount because the reason that thing is so beefy is that it prevents your foot wells from collapsing in on you when you get in an accident.

 

1. Don’t go to 4WP.
2. Cmc and hammer the pinch weld.
3. Trim plastic
4. Go to an alignment shop that knows how to deal with lifted trucks.

 

Also any spacers are going to exacerbate this issue because you're increasing the radius on which the tire rotates. The only thing spacers will help with is rubbing on UCA. If you want to maximize your gap between your cab mount, minimize your distance between the tire and the UCA.

 

Get wheels with a 0mm offset.

 

Ask them to take the spacers out. As PJtaco said, the farther the wheel sticks out the larger area it sweeps and more chance for rubbing. And a 1.25" spacer sticks the wheel pretty far out.

To illustrate this, turn your wheel full lock and look at it. You'll see what I mean.

 

Those are the stock wheels. I think they are +25 mm so should be best case for least amount of rubbing.

 

So many generic answers. Lol. What is rubbing? Tire on control arm? Tire on front of wheel well? Rear of wheel well? Cab mount? Someone mentioned less castor from alignment. I thought it was more castor to move tire away from cab mount.
I rub on cab mount and the plastic above it. I took a box cutter and cut a little out. I didn’t have to mess with the pinch weld.

 

I think I'm running 2-2.5 degrees positive caster on my truck I've done the CMC and trimmed the small tab on the rear of the front flares, I've also heat gunned front and rear of the fender liner and have zero rub now even at full flex. 285/75/16 on factory pro wheels no spacer 2" lift and Total chaos UCA's. I have not needed to do my pinch weld yet .

Tire rubbing on rear of wheel well and cab mount. Not sure about the front of the wheel well. I’m new to this stuff so my bad for generic questions.

 

Get them to swap them to 265/75/16 and be done with it.

 

Push the wheel forward, remove spacers, then beat pinch weld and cut Plastic if necessary

 

1. Hammer pinch weld
2. Trim plastic
3. Alignment
4. 3” lift (wouldn’t hurt)
