How about whiskey distillery tours, any favorites or stories? A group of us toured the George Dickel Distillery, literally in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee. What was surprising was the small number of employees. Don't remember the number, but do remember it was wasn't many. I think we saw no more than half dozen employees excluding those in the visitors' center.

    Another distillery story:

In 2006-2007, a colleague and I stopped unannounced at the Cooley Distillery in Ireland. They had no scheduled tours, but we happened to show up as the production manager walked through the front office area. He took us on a private tour that showed us the entire facility.

While touring, I noticed they were bottling a brand of Irish whiskey I'd never seen before. When I asked him about it, he said it was sold/exported only to Russia. At the end of the tour, he asked if we'd like to sample any of the 5-6 whiskeys they produced. I immediately asked to try the Russian export, but he said it was not legal to sell or serve it in Ireland. Then softly under his breath he said, "It's awful, you don't want to try it."

I think the brand was "St Patrick."

I ended up doing Buffalo Trace and Diet the other night. Was a good combo, was thinking about doing a whiskey bread pudding with a whiskey reduction sauce on top this weekend or next.

Weather is warming up. Buffalo Trace and lemonade for a poor man's whiskey sour. That's what I'm drinking tomorrow on the golf course! Well, with Evan Williams BiB anyways ;).
