Ever driven a 90" sleeper with a 53 foot trailer attached to it?

 

Very familiar with them. Son #2 was in Drum Line for Lockhart HS for 3 years, starting in Jr. Hi. Dropped out (of MUSIC) as a Senior to go get all his classes for the Scholarship he earned. Drum Line is freaking Awesome. Taping performances was seldom allowed though. I think I have a DVD though somewhere.
First time I really freaked was when CC Calallen (I believe) introduced the selves to my ears at a Round Rock HS in an open competition. Little Lockhart had 12 members, and did a good show. These folks showed up with around 75 marching percussive instruments, and a 20 member pit. I had to remove my hearing aids, and cover my ears in that gym. Then and there, I realized "serious business" is afoot!

 

You should see our marching band at Hidalgo High School. I believe they placed 5th or 6th at UIL State this past year in SA. I played Clarinet for a few years in middle school, absolutely hated it, but was fun to mess around with my friends 24/7 lol.

 

I went back to being a roadie for Drum Line. Drove the Disctricts new F250 dump pick up with a 20' trailer to every meet after that one. Had a pass that said "Driver".

 

Look easy to learn

 

Not a 90" sleeper but I have driven many loaded/armored Oshkosh 7 tons and a dragon wagon. Driving a truck simply doesn't compare.

How big are those Oshkosh trucks in real life compared to a bunk sleeper like Freightliner or Volvo? I've only really seen 1 or 2 at an airshow in NAS Kingsville.

 

Our band has their own Freightliner day cab and trailer. It's weird since none of the directors can actually drive it. Only the CDL licensed bus drivers can lol.

 

Sure it is. I could teach a rotten tomato to wiggle the sticks correctly given enough time.

If you think you can hover for more than 10 seconds before you're completely out of control, come try it. If you do, I'll pay for it.

 

I would certainly hope so! Lockhart is 3A or 4A depending. Full band has two trailers, drum line used one. Drivers are volunteer dads with trucks, or the District trucks. I was not in a towing truck at the time I was helping them out, had just gotten out of the last 2010 Taco, and into the Prius era.

We're 4A, only seven 4A schools in the Valley counting Zapata, which is like 2 hours north west of Hidalgo. The nearest is Progreso, maybe 30 minutes east of Hidalgo.

 

Yet...

 

Wheels on the ground vs. none in the air! Unlimited slip differential!

not really. But UIL hates us. Fewer schools have to travel further. And all the misfit Luling drop outs get booted up here to up the attendance.
