Well, my mind was all but made up on going with the 4x4, however the seller and I had a misunderstanding as to what constitutes a clear title. So that was a no-go.

I'm also having second thoughts about the 2008 model, as it seems like I might be paying too much for a truck that old. Its unfortunate I cant find anything at a dealership 2010+ for under 20k, unless it's a beat up 4 cylinder.

I have another 13 days to figure something out, wish me luck!

Then the pre runner is over priced, assuming actual condition/maintenance is close between the two.

Never let time drive a significant purchase decision. It rarely works out in your favor.

Go with the 2013! I may be a little bias since that is what I have but I don’t think you will be disappointed

Dealers are never your friend. By all means private sales if at all possible. Not to say you'll never get a fair deal from a dealer, nor will you always get a good deal from a private sale, but the odds are way better on a private seller. I hate to admit, my Taco did come from a used car dealer, appx. 100 mi. from me. In my area there were just no nice, 2011 to 2015 reg cab 4X4 Tacos to be found, dealers nor private sellers. Finally just sorta'f gave up, bit the bullet, but most important, I did get what I was looking for

The 13 all the way,and I am not saying that because its a 4x4 (which are IFS and nothing but problem prone junk),why bother with an 11 year old truck.

Towing package is an SR5 add on option, 140A alternator is part of the package. It's not standard. Just FYI. :)

TRDs don’t automatically come with the tow package...you can add the tow package to any model.

Don't rush it, keep looking until you find the right one. She is out there waiting for you :) I also agree with what someone else mentioned about modified trucks, I wouldn't buy a mod'd truck unless i knew it's entire history, like I helped my buddy build it or something like that. You never know what the previous owner did with it OR 'jerry-rigged', etc.

2013 no doubt about it. The mileage difference (in that mileage range) is insignificant in my mind.

You'll want to see what kind of suspension upgrade (if any) was done to support that bumper. And how much life is left in the suspension.

If the mods turn out to be properly done. Them the 2013 4x4 all the way !!!

If not? Keep looking for another 4x4. If you're looking at a 4x4 in the first place. You'll never be completely happu with the base SR5 2wd.

Expand your search farther. When I was looking around to buy a Tacoma, either it was way overpriced, a bunch of idiots at dealderships, a piece of sh*t or all combined. I found mine 180 miles away. Good luck with your search.

Tow package is always listed as a separate item. Whether it’s standard in a package or not, it is available in the SR5. Your original post was misleading. OP’s SR5 could’ve included the tow package...

Sports do not. I paid extra to add the tow package on my sport.

Just wanted to update everyone since this got so many helpful responses.

After the 4x4 deal fell through, I reevaluated my priorities and expanded my search, and decided I'd be happy with something newer and with lower miles. I plan on owning this truck for at least 10 years so it seemed more fitting to go with something more modern and less possible wear and tear.

Without further ado, my new (to me) 2014 Prerunner. 70k miles and very clean inside and out. Decided to go with the 2.4 as this is a commuter vehicle for me 99% of the time. I owned a 2001 F150 5.4 4x4 for 6 years, and couldn't remember one time I actually needed it, so the lack of 4wd isn't bothering me too much.

Already ordered a set of Weathertech mats, and currently looking for a tonneau that seals up nice. I've also ditched the chrome hubcaps, the matte gray steel looks a little better IMO. The rubber is still in great shape but I'd love to go with a set of gunmetal wheels when it's time to replace them.
