What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I learned my starter is dead. AutoZone’s internal test was completely incorrect. It barely spins when hooked up to an independent 12v battery.

This is NOT an OEM starter, it’s a “Remanufactured” Bosch. I will be replacing it with a new OEM unit. Supercharger will be coming off to verify potential foreign object damage.

Actually, I just tested it again with the Mercedes battery and it spun just fine. I’m just going to replace the starter anyway because this one has been acting super erratically.

 

It's a 9"rim and like - 38 off set. So they stick out a bunch.
And that was as stuffed as I could get it with out taking out the bumpstops. I'll see if I can get it pushed forward a bit more to with a alignment.

I always thought the ping I heard was from letting the clutch out too fast sometimes since mine is super grabby.

Luckily there are some places in NJ you can get away from people. I live in suburbia, but there is farms surrounding us in our current spot. I grew up in the more mountainy area of NJ near PA and only had one neighbor. That said, the east coast SUCKS for free camping and wheeling.

Everyone always talks about this like it's a bad thing. When it's 20 degrees out I get to wait in my heated car while some dude pumps my gas.

I work just south of Philly so I hit a $5 toll everyday to leave NJ. I live right off the intersection of the NJ/PA turnpikes and I can literally get to the top of NJ in an hour using it so I use it. It's avoidable in the NW part of Jersey, but not where I am now. All depends on where you live and work really. PA isn't much better with the TP tolls.

 

I'll be going out to kingsland once I move out there. I have family that lives there.

Ya I'm okay just sore. The work trucks probably going to be totaled tho I drive a cutaway box van so the whole box will probably need to be replaced and that might cost more then its worth

 

Dealing with the same issue. Mine started 3 weeks ago when i did the carrier bearing.

 

Grease the slip yoke splines by hand, I haven't done it yet but it doesn't look difficult. Just have to mark the slip yoke so you put it back in the same way/position it came out.

Not sure, but the truck has 187k, a bunch of the past 50k have been rough off road tho. So I’m not surprised but I don’t wanna do it until I get into a house

 

it could be original still
mine is not slipping yet (i will know when it happens)
just have a couple sticky lower gears lately it seems and not sure what to make out of it
