Thinking of trading my Tacoma for a Tundra.

I've got a 2010 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 that I'm thinking of trading for a new Tundra in the same configuration. I absolutely love my Tacoma but I've been driving a fulls size truck for several years now and miss the bigger truck. I'm looking at a 2010 Crew Max TRD 4x4 in white. For those who have made this move: good, bad, or indifferent? I know the gas mileage will obviously be worse but I know this up front. I've only owned Chevy and Ford full size trucks in the past and kind of excited about a Toyota full size.

 

I did it and I miss my tacoma. Dont get me wrong. the Tundra is super nice but.....

 

I p/u my Tundra today (I hope-if they got the Sat radio installed) just came off the truck Friday. Although the Tacoma is a nice truck, I just like a full size better. I like the increased bed size, the improved ride quality, wider more spacious interior, view/visibility, sound (V8 over sewing machine sounding V6). My trucks stay stock, I'm not into lift kits and off roading (as a pasttime). Hauling gear to mntn house, hunting stuff/bird dogs, project lumber, feed, and riding in style
I know the fuel consumption will be a little higher, but I have friends with the new 4.6l and they're quite happy with the fuel efficiency.

I had an 07 Tundra which I sold and bought the 2010 Taco I now own.

The Tundra is an excellent truck. I just did not need a full size truck anymore wanted a new 2010 and decided on the Taco.

At least you realize the mileage will be a lot worse. I did the same thing when I bought my Tacoma, came from a Silverado. I miss the full size but I live in a more urban area now and couldn't park the old truck anywhere and navigating it through the city was horrible so it just wasn't practical. If you've always had a full size and don't really care for having a smaller truck, I don't think you'd regret getting the Tundra. Just get ready for higher gas bills!

By the way, if you're looking for a full size that actually gets good highway mileage, might want to look at the new Chevy/GMC. Blasphemy, I know, but if I went back to a full size that's what I'd go for.

 

I had been driving an F-150 Super Crew with the 5.4L V8 prior to buying the Taco, and I must say that I do miss driving a full-size truck with tons of power to spare. I still love my Taco though, as it costs me half as much in to fill it up. But if the funds were there, I would be driving a full-size truck without a doubt. I like having 50+ inches in between the wheel wells to put 4x8 sheets of plywood and drywall.

 

Your not the only one. My wife wants me to get a bigger truck because she is going to get her dads toy hauler, eventually. I love the new 2011 gmc too. Can decide what to do!!!!!

 

do a google search on white tundra paint problems. my brother has a 2008 and the thing developed yellowish spots all over the vehicle. toyota paid for a completely new paint job but was a huge pain.

 

I got an '09 Tundra as a loaner while the dealership did some things to my new leftover '08 Tacoma.........those things are powerhouses -- 381hp factory is quite a bit of tug!

 

If your up in the air because your wife is pushing you to get a bigger truck for a toy hauler, I can't say I feel bad for ya. What I can say is keep ahold of that one!

 

Yeah I know!!! That is what I want!! I told her to trade her Toyota and she laugh and said we don't need two trucks.

 

Thanks for all the replies. It turns out, the Crew Max I had decided to buy was sold when I got there this morning. This was the only TRD Crew Max left in my area. I have contemplated just going with the Double Cab but not sure. I may just hold on to my Tacoma for a while longer. I know I will eventually go back to a fulls size truck but it may be a few more months now. I have checked with 3 dealerships and they all want to give me $24000-24,500 for my truck. Whew! It is a 2010 Double Cab TRD Off Road with only 8500 miles and not a scratch on it. The only mods I have done is replace the BFG's with Duratracs and tint the front windows to match the back.

 

Did you go to Jim Hudson? if so i was there while you were too, but i say keep your 10' and look for a used full size to use when you need it and keep the Tacoma for around town

brianc142, that seems too low to me. I getting $24,000 on my '09 SR5 4X4 with 20k miles.

 

I drove a 2000 Tundra for 9-1/2 years and stepped down in size to the Tacoma because I didn't feel I needed a full size truck anymore.

I do miss that 4.7L V8 but that's about it. My Tacoma is perfect for my needs now.

 

...Except that the Gen 1 Tundra and Gen 2 Tacoma are almost identical in size and share much of their platform...

 

If you are buying a full size pickup and do not seriously consider the new F-150 you are shorting yourself big time.

THE finest full size pickup truck ever built.

And I have no dog in the hunt. As I've owned a dozen new trucks...both Ford and Chevy...all good...but NO TRUCK compares to the new Ford. Period.

Now...having said this. I bought a new 2010 F150 XLT Scab in May this year...traded it on the 2010 Tacoma 2 weeks ago. I could not wait to get rid of that beast. It's BIG. And I'm not. I just could not get comfortable in it.

I love my Tacoma. I always liked them...especially since 2005. I would be in hog heaven if the new Tacoma coming soon was available with a small block V8. I would be at the Toyota dealership tomorrow morning placing my order.

 

You also forgot to mention how ugly the new F150's are Seriously it could be a Bugati under that body and I wouldn't buy it :/

 

Styling is subjective.

Quality and stoutness are not.

BTW...the Tundra is no pageant winner.
