Agreed, but i’m Just happy for the cutouts. Really allows for easy customization.

Anyone come up with a good way to keep the tent material up on the ceiling when the Hab is closed. The board holds the bow up, but lots of tent material hangs down.

You could try a cargo net, or just a chunk of pink foam insulation.

I don’t really mind the stuff hanging down. I’m still trying to figure out a good place to store the poles. Right now they are sitting under the back seat

I use stainless steel broom holders from the hardware store. A little VHB tape and two per side on the ledges.

Saw this somewhere else and copied, sorry I can't remember who it was to give them credit, but works great, made one for each side, I think it is 3/8 braided.

AT gave me some springy things that I use. It’s like a little bungee with a plastic ball on the end.

back many pages in this thread is this discuss, about closing the Habitat
several of us here have adopted the use of an "irwin" speed grip clamp. there are several brands.
no rope no bungy-ball, no excess pulling on those T-handles, just bring the shell down enough to catch the upper and lower shell with the clamp jaws and ratchet it down

I use those except I replaced the shock cord with static and have one longer and one shorter to incrementally close it while stuffing the tent material in.

Same here, 2 with 550 cord and a figure-8 in the middle to form a high and low ‘setting’. When not in use I have them hanging from a cheap carabiner in the top rear corner.

Finally making a fill panel. Took some inspiration from @tacofort

Could the habitat work for a family of 5? Maybe sleep 3 small kids on one side and 2 adults on the other? Maybe put on kid in the bed of truck as they get bigger? Is that wishful thinking?

You definitely could. There’s a ton of space.

When both kids were smaller we’d do mom and kiddos on the bed, dad on sleep platform. We then tried kids on two sleep platforms, mom and dad on the bed. That worked till one kid rolled onto the hatch and we had to get creative.

Now it’s kids on the bed, and mom and dad on the sleep platforms. As they get older and want independence, I figure they’ll go hammock or ground tent.

    But yes, plenty of room.

It works great for 2 kids (ages 4 and 7). I have them setup on a platform over the bed of the truck that cover the entire width but leave 2 feet of access to get in and out. When they get older, I figure I will get add a ground tent to the gear pile.

That looks great. What thickness on your plywood? I have the rectangle panel that came with the Habitat and want to make a plywood piece that will fill the gap (pretty much the section outlined in blue below), that has a lip under it to rest the standard panel edge on. That way I can use it in the normal position, take both pieces out, or use the whole thing as a table. Mine would be the flipped version of yours, as my fridge makes a perfect bench on the passenger side.

I used 5/8" birch, could probably do 3/4" though, but the 5/8" feels solid enough for me. I'm going to add extra reinforcement anyway which should eliminate bending.

I don't trust myself enough to make something like your talking about with a lip for support.

I'm really thinking about picking one of these up (or the mobtown aluminium version). How are you liking it? Does it flex when you kneel your way into the bed?
