Me and my good friend ran Hurricane Creek today. We even got off I-40 at the right spot the first time! We ran in to a couple guys on dual sport bikes that were flat wore out. They were going to end at the I-40 entrance. Definitely a good run and just technical enough to not be a snooze fest.

We had planned to go on up to Max Patch but apparently we zigged when we should have zagged and missed it. We still got a good view at the end either way.

Dont be a douche on these roads, be respectful, ask if you are not sure. Dont ever assume that because it says road that you have unlimited access to it. That is an easy say to become a douche.

Uh, I’m not sure what you mean. But I guess the vibe in getting is that if I’m not a local I’m not welcome here. Just assuming we were out there trespassing is a pretty easy way to be a douche also.

From what I hear it's the landowners in the area. They threaten to have the trail shut down due to the poor etiquette of some of the riders that come through.

I understand that and I suffered through that same shit where I’m from in WV. That’s why I ALWAYS practice Tread Lightly. I even have a hand full of beer cans I grabbed on our journey today. But, I can’t control what others do unfortunately.

It wasn’t bad at all. A stock truck with street tires may take a bit more effort, but a good set of all terrains and some ability are all you need.

I don't know when but I'd like to get a group ride out there. I'm bad at organizing, though.

Yep! Well sort of. There were others on the trail. I spotted another taco and a couple jeeps. (I'm pretty prepared for self recovery.)

Literally ordered it an hour ago!:D

I've been joking about hoping to get gently rear ended so someone else would pay for it. Still not sure the wife believes it was an accident.

This has become my philosophy. Need to destroy the factory one to justify the purchase of a HC. Especially since the OEM 2nd gen is steel....

12/6/2019 Update on Hurricane Creek Road. I talked to the ranger (David Dixie) with Appalachian Ranger District. This road will be seasonally closed starting Jan. 2 2020. It will re-open April 1 I believe. This will be the new norm for this road. I don't know where the gates will be, but I assume after the residential part.

Thank you for posting this! I drove Hurricane Creek Trail in March 2019 just up to the 1st creek crossing. I turned back soon after crossing the creek because I was alone & didn't wanna risk getting stuck too far into the trail. I want to take another trip up to the mountains either in late February or early March of next year & was hoping to have some locals ride Hurricane Creek trail up to Max Patch with me but looks like that's not gonna happen.

I'm also HOPING to see some snow on the trail & more creek crossings this time around. It was 21 degrees when I went but no snow.

I'm glad i read through this thread and found out about the seasonal closure. I've been out there many times but it's been a while. First time I went, probably 7 years ago, it was somewhat of a real trail, Last time about a year ago there wasn't much to it. Most had been graveled over, the spot where there were 3 muddy tracks- pass through, a bit of a splash and "I'll lock the front too" had been dozed; the hillclimb gone too. It's a really pretty area and I'm happy to see it all toned down if that means it stays open. Thinking about driving down Hurricane creek is the exact reason (scratches) that I changed my mind from blue to white when I ordered the current truck. Can't wait to start taking my 3 year old son on little day trips like through there. (I won't post pics including the vehicles from back then, they'll be shunned:))
