I was surprised to see that my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport (access cab and manual) has held so much of its value with 25K miles on it. I had always said, if I had to do it over again, I'd get climate control (those manual knobs are hard to read), and the blind spot on the passenger side is terrible. I like the Premium Sport Package and Technology package. I would update the truck and keep it for 15 years, as I usually do.

Can anyone tell me what else is new or different on the 2019, from my 2017? I paid around 32K for the 2017 and they are offering me 26,500 in trade. Good deal on the 2019, with 1.9 financing. How can I go wrong?

So basically reset to start over on basically the same truck, yeah um nope. There hasn't been enough improvements to make me want to start over.

The finance rate is great, if your not in a hurry I would try to sell it private party and wait for October when the 2020's roll out and the 2019's arent wanted on the lots anymore.

Just a question, are you getting a MT again?

2018 up you have the nanny systems. Skip.

2020 you have nanny systems plus automatic seats. Skip.

Save your money, you got the final run of the best years, in manual no less.

It will be a power seat and Apple carplay. That's still not enough for me to want to trade up. Maybe if they install rear disc brakes, make leather interior standard on the Sport and OR and offer a sunroof package for less than $500 i'd be in. The 3rd gen is still way behind in terms of features and QDR vs. the 2nd gen.

Bingo. Check out the threads of guys getting claims denied because they have a non-VIN matched grill. It’s crazy how sensitive they’re getting with things.

For the blind spot, swap out for the RAV4 mirrors blind spot mirrors. My BSM system messed up and I’m not paying $500 to have it reset, so I bought the different mirrors and love them.

If 1.9 financing is thru the dealership or Toyota make sure you check the APR in the contract. 1.9 may be the interest rate but the APR will be your cost to borrow the money on a yearly basis which is usually higher. There is no such thing as zero percent financing or low financing on vehicles say under 3%. They will factor the cost to borrow into the purchase price of the vehicle people get suckered all the time on those deals and you’ll be next.

TSS is probably the biggest difference on the 19s. Really great feature to have imo and well worth an upgrade, especially if you're already looking to get into a double cab if that's something your looking for. Personally I'd wait for the 2020 model since it'll have more upgrades/refreshes available, 19s are basically 18s minus one storage cubby.

Edit: I suppose your trade in value may go down if you waited, something to consider anyway

I went from a ‘17 Offroad auto to a ‘19 Offroad manual with premium and tech packages. Some minor changes like the passenger front floor mats have anchors, usb charge ports in the center storage, no more driver side bed cubbies. If you’re planning to lift or change out the grill you’ll potentially have issues with toyota warranty because of the new safety sense features. If you don’t have rear sensors now, you get to loose the silly chrome bumpers for color matched ones.

Biggest differences for me were two more years of build experience seems to have produced a better built truck, and you can get a pretty good deal now with 1.9% financing. Best safety features so far have been the blind spot and backup/cross traffic sensors.

Are you looking to stay with a manual? They don’t make as many of those, so that’s why I ended up getting one now with better odds getting the features/color I wanted. You could probably get a better deal when the 2020s are a bit closer to coming out, but might trade off getting exactly what you want.

The safety features are very important to me. I did swap out for the rav4 mirrors. With the access cab, you are minus the wide back side windows. The blindspot still is bad and has almost caused me an accident several times. That alone, with the upgrade is worth it to me for safety. I am a nervous wreck driving on the highway at night in the city. Yes I am going with another access cab, I just like the look and space of a full bed. I am single and have no need for a back seat. This truck will have to be ordered from Japan and will take 2 months to get.

Also, I never buy a vehicle the first year they make a major change. So I probably would not buy a 2020 anyway.

They don't come from Japan?? o_O

Also its just a few new features, some new headlights etc., nothing to worry about as is with buying a first model year vehicle

Not sure I follow. You said " ordered from Japan". Tacoma's are built in Texas and Mexico are they not? Says you live in Wis. Are you now living in Japan and the truck will need to be sent from the US to Japan?
