And we have another project, with summer temps rolling in we've found that with increased load our 3 ton unit will overcool the coils in the house, I noticed when we bought the house that the return is abysmally small (12x24) and it's the only one for the system.
Doing the simple math on the online calculators we should have about 432 Sq. Inches of return and we have 288 currently, the AC closet is between the downstairs bath and kitchen, naturally you don't want a return in the bathroom (humidity is already bad enough) and the kitchen side backs up to the back of the dishwasher.
I asked an HVAC friend about it and he recommended cutting out the platform to just in front of the unit, framing a doorway to the floor and installing a louvered door that is filtered.
Is that similar to what you guys are thinking?

Gas tankless is way better anyhow :)
Plus you’ll already have a vent path to follow after you remove the old flue from your current water heater

Doesn't have to completely clog drain to reek like decomposing hair

We have a Rinnai NG Tankless that was put in when the house was built 12 years ago. The only failure type of issue it’s had, is an igniter go out. There really isn’t any sort of moving parts to go bad. Just some electronics. Basically, they’re heat exchangers. Just keep them descaled and they should go 25-30 years.
There’s lots of YouTube videos for descaling, just make sure you have the right valves. Don’t waste your money on the “descaling solution”. Just get 3 gallons of good old fashioned vinegar, a couple of cheap washing machine hoses, a submersible pump, and a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Takes about 90 mins, and I do it every year or two.

Edit: there is only one downside...
My house is a two story, and the water heater is in the basement. In the winter, it can take 2 full minutes for hot water to make its way to our master bath upstairs. It’s sometimes annoying, but it wouldn’t stop me from using them again.

    What toolbag you use?

I think I need to whittle mine down to a lighter package.

    Any complaints with that bag?

My meter case isn’t as big as yours and I’d kinda like to keep it with me, so might need a little bigger bag than that one.

I have this. I have the smaller pocket full, rear pocket holds a 12” level, large ChannelLock’s, my meter, 12V impact, and a pair of 1/4” socket sets in cases. :bananadead:

I always have the tool I need, but it’s heavy.
