Picked up the transmission today after work.
    New solenoids and torque converter.

Replaced the rear main seal while trans is out.
Power washed and ready for install tomorrow.
Hopefully it fixes it. If not I’ll keep on the hunt. Probably mess with the battery first and go from there.

Absolutely nothing to add here constructively, 1. Nicely done
    2. What the hell was sloshing out of the box? Whatever it was made me laugh even harder at this whole crazy video
    3. Hope it’s something simple / cheap so you can get back out there and post more videos.

Now that the trans is fix what are you going to try next? Throwing parts at something with no real answer gets expensive fast.

Installed the transmission with new solenoids and a new torque converter. Still not right. Gunna check battery and fuel pressure next.
    Battery is pretty old. 7/14.
I’ve got one that’s from 15 that I’m going to drive around with tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

My parents were dumb af financially while I was growing up, pop's bought a spanking new 95 or so(dam can't believe I don't memba year) but it was the limited and was way more than they could afford and couple years later they traded it in on a 97 Camry and kept that thing for over 20 years and 300k+ miles. Sorry, anywho. I just remember loving that 4Runner. I thought it was so cool. I was 16 or 17 or something

This is where I’m going to start next. Probably drop a different “newer” battery in. (My current one is 7/14) and see if it has any effect on the shifting. Feel like it’s a long shot but it’s a inexpensive thing to try and I’m open to all ideas.

I'm not sure i follow this- if the battery can start the engine, that means you have plenty of current and voltage, much more than any computer will ever need. Think about it- if you have 12 volts DC, and says 250 cold cranking amps (usually these numbers are higher but lets use that for a ballpark), then you are talking 3000 Watts of available power- its hard to see a scenario where a vehicle computer ever approaches that kind of draw. If the charging system is a problem that battery will lose charge and not start the truck over time. I don't see where you have that going on.

Usually if a computer is getting low voltage you get random shit happening or it keeps rebooting, but your issue is consistent, to the point where you can predict when its going to happen. That tells me it is not supply power. "Perhaps" the computer itself is an issue, but again, the fact you see it happen at a certain time and condition means it should be traceable to a condition or state, so you need to approach from that side. Ask what is happening once the truck warms up compared to a cold condition where you don't see it, and go from there.

Seems mechanical to me- I'd be surprised if this is electrical.

I thought the same thing but did some digging and apparently it’s a thing.
    ADB5D20F-A79D-4BE8-957D-0BD32E7A29FE.jpg

Again, it’s probably a long shot but it’s a possibility and a cost effective thing to check out before I look into fuel related problems that would cause the symptoms I’m experiencing.

I had a first gen Tacoma that was misfiring randomly after it warmed up. I messed with that thing until I finally gave up and decided just to live with it. Later on, the battery died and had to be replaced. After installing a new battery, the misfire went away and stayed away the following few years until I sold it. So, the battery will cause this kind of stuff.
