using 5w30 full synthetic every 6-6500 miles

Bought two of these monster Wix for my next two Taco oil changes

Wix made in USA......Toyota made in Thailand......IF that matters

Just thought I'd post a comparison pic of the two in size.....

yes its what on the inside that counts....but both filter brands highly regarded

 

Don't think it really matters tbh. Heck I change my oil every 12,500 miles with the cheapest I can find so whatever. I do use a long life oil filter.

 

Only way to really find out is to cut them open and measure filter media surface area

 

@Armed in Utah I use same size filter in Purolator Boss, PBL30001. I put in 6.5 qts of full synthetic oil. Had been using Mobil1 but after watching some Project Farm oil comparisons, I'm switching to Amazon's brand. The Boss has a very thick shell and is rated to 15K miles. Only $12 on amazon, about the cost of a six pack of craft beer; my truck is worth it.

That yzzd3 Toyota filter IS the oversized filter....

A spec’d Fram ultra 3614 or Mobil 1 201a is the stock size (yzzd1).

Those filters are warrantied to 15000 miles or more.

The larger Fram 3600 or Mobil 1 209a are similar in size to the “oversized” yzzd3.

What else could you possibly need?

 

If you want really clean oil , run a remote oil filter set up with dual filter pad set up with (2) 1qt filters . To make sure oil flows freely to and from the motor run #10AN or #12AN lines

 

What am I missing? They appear to have different diameters so how will they seat and seal?

 

That is for the Land Cruiser, not the Taco.

I doubt that filter would even fit where the oil filter goes.

FWIW, the Toyota filter is rated very high, no need to go aftermarket shopping.

Will it fit on the 4.0 ,looks larger than the oil filter housing can handle.

 

Yes, it fits. Been using the equivalent size Purolators for 2-3 years. The gasket size is larger but fits on the base plate. You’ll find oldum threads going back to 2009 of using this size filter.

 

What would the added benefit be of this with normal intervals? I’ve used nothing but Toyota filters for half a million miles between my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen trucks. Never had any issues whatsoever. These trucks are pretty easy on oil to begin with.

Added oil capacity. I run the Wix and 6qts of oil over the stock 5.5qts.

 

I use the Baldwin B2-HPG on my 2tr-fe. Excellent filtration and flow specs, holds an even 6 qts with this filter.

 

Added benefit is increased oil capacity and oil filtration area, for a nominal expense as oppose to adding a remote filtration system. More oil in system means cooler engine temp as there is more oil to absorb it. Will one notice the difference; probably not; definitely not in the short run. There is no disadvantage, that I can see, other than an increase in price of about $5-10 per oil change - worth the trade-off, imo.

 

It's kinda like an oil catch can mod. Will it help in anyway whatsoever? Eh? Maybe? But I did it. It's a cheap and any easy way to possibly help my engine out.

 

However with normal intervals, you’re really getting no noticeable benefit, especially when oil analysis tests can show that much longer intervals are easily achievable with normal OEM filters. If you worked your engine to the point where extra oil would prevent damage, something else on your truck would likely be damaged already anyways. Just figure why try and fix something that isn’t broken. Most of you likely have 1GR-FE engines by the looks of it, one of the most bulletproof engines out there, and is extremely easy on oil. Adding more with no interval change won’t do much other than waste $$$

 

The don't-fix-it-if-it-aint broken philosophy contradicts the preventive maintenance philosophy.

 

Not when it comes to using Factory spec parts.
