@turbodb Fabbed Bed Racks

Turbo,

Not to crazy about camper’s right now and want something that i can have open and have all my gear in the bed as well. Looking for something like a ladder rack that extends over the cab so i can mount my basket there along with keeping the rack about half a foot about the cab so i can have visibility. Big plus to have mesh or some type of cross bars for the sides to mount tools and retropax(or in my case, my old military jerry cans).

 

I might add i want it taller due to my dogs being in their shelter i built for my bed which lines up with the bottom seam of my bed. I’m away at work across the country but definitely will share my sketches when i get back. Thanks man

 

Never picked up 20' sticks before, but that was all that they had in stock today. Made it work...and took it slow getting home.

I attempted to paint mine over the winter in the cold (20*).. hot boxed space-heaters and all. It turned out awful and barely adhered to the surface. Long story short, I accepted the fact I'd have to wait until it warmed up for a satisfactory result, while keeping as many brain cells as possible (6 space-heaters full blast made me dizzy ).

Hopefully have it done by this weekend, I'll post pics.

 

Sounds good. Make sure to clean it well with a degreaser first; that'll net you much better adhesion.

 

Even though it dried like powder, that undercoating is a nightmare to remove.

Lesson learned. Patience young Padawan.

Yes I did, turns out patience truly is a virtue. Just needed to be a bit warmer! probably going to be ordering some of those hilift mounts and possibly the Power outlet in the next little bit, I'll be in touch.

Really is a great bed rack though (welds are fantastic). I couldn't find anything for the truck aside from yours, would've had to go custom. So thanks. Lifesaver. Plus, brilliant idea going with greyhound.

 

Hey Turbo, are you making those with the tie downs like Adam’s yet? I get your reasoning that with a RTT they are worthless, but I have a trailer and see times where I won’t have a RTT on the rack and want more options.

 

I haven't made any with the tie downs, but feel free to PM me and we can talk designs.

 

Thoughts on one for a 2nd gen?

 

I'd be open to doing a 2nd gen if there was one around that I could use as a "template" to get fitment right.

Yep, definitely. The rack will fit any first gen with a standard long or short bed. I'll shoot you a PM.

Approximately 38x38" for the platform (pretty sure that's in the first post, but might be buried, sorry) - though it's easy to make it shorter/longer if you have a specific need.

 

They are a bit over a foot I think, they hold the platform ~8" over the rail. Why do you ask - something specific you're thinking about mounting?

 

Ahh, gotcha. That'd be close. Just measured and you have ~13.25-13.5" of usable flat space there, if you aren't running an RTT.
