A lot of the drivetrain failures on German cars seem to be due to over engineering for the time and a long term lack of maintenance. They put so much fancy shit into there that it's inevitable that it will fail given time and abuse...

Need to pull the front wheels off and take a look at the ball joints and TREs as well as the rotors. I'm pretty sure it needs all of the typical fluids to he changed, no clue if it needs a timing set but I do know the tstat I'd stuck open lol

    Yep.
Toyota kinda screwed up people's view of routine maintenance. Like the Yota camrys and corollas and trucks, freaking all of them, are really good at taking lack of maintenance and still going strong for a long time. And so people just don't think they need to do it. That's why it isn't a HUGE deal to find a Yota without service records but you better have records of service for a German model or domestic full size lol

I wouldn’t even buy used german. Yeah you save on the cost of the car compared to new, but you gunna pay the same price as new on fixing your used car

You’re telling me. It’s so difficult to pull parts from them because I can’t tell how any of it comes apart. You’ll be hard pressed to find any exposed fasteners.

Holding any part of that car just feels solid.

I bought this giant service set for about $70. Pretty sure it’ll work for you, it’s useful for other things too like seal driving.

Lol perfect excuse to do the coolant. It's always easier when there is a reason to do it besides preventative maintenance

Yeah, but then you don’t get labels that yell ACHTUNG! at you when you try to take something apart.

Yeah me neither. But if I were to buy used Euro make, it'd have to have dealer service records. But I'd never own one. I dunno, never say never I guess

I’d buy a used Euro car before I buy a used Chrysler.

At least Europeans understand what quality is.

Yeah that's even lower on the list, not even worth mentioning. That should be a given, shouldn't even require asking.

Say what you want about German cars, but they really are luxury. I strip old American luxury cars for a living; Cadillacs, Buicks, and Oldsmobiles. As the years go on, you can see the obvious significant decline in quality in all of the brands.

A 1976 Cadillac DeVille used to look like this.

    ED2DECDF-29B6-4870-875C-B33FB6ECC4B9.jpg

    8EC00D05-6E40-4A3E-B7DF-6F994467C01F.jpg

High quality, deliberate thought into everything in its design. The interior was something from another planet, mattresses as seats, quality upholstery and real wood burl trim everywhere, and technology that was cutting edge for the time period. Power windows, locks, and a digitized infotainment system (on 80’s models) that came DECADES before that became standard in vehicles.

Not a single piece of plastic in the entire car. If you had a Cadillac in those days, you’ve made it.

This is a 2000 Cadillac DeVille.

I don’t even need to tell you anything about it because you can just see how bad the quality has dropped merely from the pictures.

    0952B84D-7E19-4E1B-A365-7DFBD1FBFDE0.jpg

    AC1E5412-F239-4F04-91BD-C9F7BB6B28F2.jpg

Cadillac has lost their way. They’re a shell of their former glory. They’re relying on sales to Baby Boomers who know of their high quality brand name, except the brand name has gone to shit.

If Cadillac stops trying to focus on being every other car brand by having fast and sporty vehicles, and focus on their history of slow — yet luxurious vehicles, then maybe they’ll be something again some day.

If I want Luxury I’m going to go out and buy Mercedes or a Lexus. American Luxury cars are a joke nowadays.

Even Chrysler used to make nice quality vehicles some time long long ago.
