    All,

Looking to get a Tacoma in the next couple of weeks. My question is: what is the LX? I seem to see them, they seem a bit cheaper and it's always a truck that I really like.

By the way, I am looking for a 97 Tacoma 4 cylinder 2.7 5 spd 4x4 extra cab in black, stock only no mods (except for a hitch). I have always wanted one just like that.

let me know if you have one, I live in Long Beach Ca, and need it to be near me.

Sorry, I'm on the wrong coast, if I am not mistaken, the LX meant a nicer package, like cruise control, AM/FM with cas. player, I also think a side view mirror on passenger, mud flaps.

wrong-o lol the lx is the more base truck...usually has the argent colored grill instead of chrome, argent bumper front and back... I believe the 4wd's do have mudflaps standard, lx may also include AC since everyone I have seen has had it.....sr5 is the higher model with the cruise etc...but really the way toyota USED to be you could buy the base truck and add cruise and cd player no ac or vise-versa so really the trim level is only important if the original owner didnt option it up anyway

I suspected it was the most basic. Probably the reason why I like it so much. I prefer basic to luxurious in trucks, always have. I have my wife's fancy Bimmer for luxury.

Anyone know if it's true that the 2.7L is only rated to tow 3500 lbs vs the 5000 lbs for the V6? I seem to keep finding conflicting answers. I used to tow a small tractor when I lived in New Zealand with a small Hilux diesel and it was likley over limit....gotta love the farm.

That is correct gen 1 tow ratings were/are 3500 for 2.7 and 5000 for 3.4

Mine is a LX and it is fully loaded. All Chrome, power everything, auto hubs and cruise control, the only thing it didn't come with was power mirrors, that was in SR5 model only. And then again I see base model LX with nothing but maybe AC.

yeah I used to love toyota's ordering system like I said you could get a base truck and then just option everything you wanted or didnt lol... I have seen a lx 2.4L 5spd 2wd that had ac and power windows...but no tach/chrome/cruise even had fm only stereo no tape/cd lol

I wish we could still do it that way. My truck would be quite a bit different than what I had to settle for/get stuck with.

yeah I am not a fan of the new bigger tacomas as in I dont think they are a good replacement for the tacoma... they would be a great mid-sized truck like the old tundra let the tacoma alone and then called the new tundra something different you know... but that said was looking for a truck awhile back and thought...hell i love toyotas and even if it isnt really a tacoma anymore its still a toyota so i try to get some prices...wanted double cab 4x4 long bed manual, my trucks are always manual.....well no manuals on the lot....well what about order? nope no manual on double cab long beds....I was like so you can get a manual double cab short bed? and they are like yeah you want to drive one? ummm no I need a truck not a sport utility with a wheelbarrow on the back.... feh its sad when the company doesnt want to sell you the truck you want... its like the commercial where the guy gets the samwich and says "umm i asked for no mayo" so the waitress rubs the bread on the edge of the table to scrape the mayo off...lol

Does anybody know why the 'LX' package has more 'value' than the 'SR5' xtracab 4x4 v6 model for a '96 '97
looking at NADA tables and the 'LX' package option has $225 of value addon

The SR5 package was pretty much just the SR5 badges on the side of the truck.

It was more but you could order all the things individually back in the late '90s. on your LX

My BIL's '98 5 lug LX had everything my SR5 had. Sliding rear window? Yep. Tach.? Yep. Pwr/windows, cruise and A/C, same radio? Yep.

EVERYTHING was an option in '97.

Mine aren't power mirrors either. I think that's tied in with each other.

    Later that would id 'Limited'.
