    Yeah, just got mine up. Just an inch or so overhanging the bed. I've got it pretty tight against the cab.

    To everyone who posted on this thread,

    Thank you for the really spectacular photos of the scenic areas and the mini-reviews on these tents. The setups you guys are running are very nice. As a fellow member here, it is nice seeing the simple comradery between everyone sharing the experience with these tents (no bashing/inappropriateness, etc). Thanks for this, fellas.

    I recently acquired a Smitty Overlander XL that will see some use once the weather warms up a bit and looking forward to using it. I will be mounting to the Yakima Bedrock system and also utilize the bed extender for storage and help with the overhang "look" with the short bed.

    Has anyone upgraded the mounting bolts - 6mm that connects the rail to the bottom of the rtt? Aren't they kind of small and chinzy? From what I read people are upgrading to grade 8 bolts but I cant find them in Home Depot or Lowes in stainless steel.

    Here you go. I had my doubts, but it holds up well, even while offroading. That said, for my family of 3 starfish sleepers, it is excessively large, and I love it. I think I could comfortably bring my dog inside with plenty of room.

    Wow, i feel like I’m among brothers in this thread. Can believe i just found this! We have had our Overlander now for about 3 years. Got this bad boy before our first true “overlanding” trip that took us from south Texas to Whidbey Island near Seattle. We slept in the tent with our daughter the first year and had plenty of room with her sleeping crossways near the foot of the tent.

    Over the last couple of years, we’ve taken the tent on countless trips and last year i was able to build a trailer to pull along behind us (we used my wife’s T4R to pull it). The only drawback for us was the mattress. The first year, we added dense foam and extra quilts to try and give more loft to it. At first i thought it was just my fat ass that was having the issue but my wife is only 120lbs soaking wet and she was having sleeping issues as well. Last year, we decided to add a Coleman queen inflatable mattress to the mix and problem solved! No more sore hips or backs. The mattress deflates really thin so there’s not the extra bulk from the extra padding.

    We did end up getting the awning that we use often and the annex that we have yet to use. I was concerned about the loss of MPG so i got the mid height all pro bars and this configuration doesn’t get the tent high enough to utilize the annex.

    So, now when the entire family travels, we have one of our smaller tents for the kids and dog. I may end up adjusting the rack on the trailer to sit higher in the future, but IDK. Just seems easier to setup the smaller tent when we need it.
    Anybody interested in a never used annex? lol.
    We have taken one trip to the National Seashore and the winds did make the rain fly flap like crazy all night and my wife said she’d probably never do that again but, we’ll see. Might be able to give it another go if i remove it. The tent is well made and the only upgrade I’ve made was to replace the Velcro straps that the cover uses. I used some load straps i bought from wal mart and now have a more positive hold. I don’t regret at all not spending a lot more for a Tepui or similar brand.

    i agree, great tent especially for the price. this past weekend it withstood 45mph winds no problem, was a little noisy

    I just got mine installed however I'm having issues with the legs only locking in certain spots is this accurate? Shouldn't I be able to adjust them more?

    One of the first things I did was drill my own holes on the ladder so I could lock it in a more upright position. Literally felt like I had to lay across it to get up with the holes they provided. But then again it is made to be on top of our roofs. Lol
