Good morning, 100% chance of rain all day. And looks like they got it right. So not doing much of anything outside.

That is OK an Audie Murphy movie will be on soon. And of course John Wayne.

    :oldglory:

House cleaning and laundry can wait today.

I added equal amounts of mustard and ketchup to the beans that I smoked yesterday. And maybe a whole lot of maple sugar :anonymous:

Great post (and visual) over on a clay target shooting website that I frequent.

It is perfectly fine to relax & refresh, hopefully with family, on this long Holiday weekend, while not losing sight of it's significance. It will be a tough time for children, brothers and sisters, moms and dads. Very few of "The Greatest Generation" remain; thank those that you can.

    Arlington National Cemetery
Women in Savannah, Georgia decorated Confederate soldiers' graves in 1862 and a remembrance for deceased Union soldiers occurred in Charleston, South Carolina May 1, 1865. A "Memorial Day" began in Columbus, Georgia in 1866. On May 5, 1868, in his capacity as commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, the veterans' organization for Union Civil War veterans, General John A. Logan issued a proclamation calling for "Decoration Day" to be observed nationwide.

Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial
The cemetery contains 411 graves of American soldiers killed in World War I
Lt. Colonel John McCrae M.D. "In Flanders Fields", written after the 2nd Battle of Ypres during which the Germans used chlorine gas on the Canadian line April 22, 1915:

    In Flanders fields
    the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
    That mark our place;
and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing,
fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
    We are the Dead.
    Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Henri Chapelle American Cemetery, Belgium
The cemetery contains the graves of 7,992 members of the American military who died in World War II.

    Normandy American Cemetery
Overlooking Omaha Beach, the cemetery contains the remains of 9,387 American military dead, including Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and Quentin Roosevelt, an aviator killed in action in World War I.

    Cambridge American Cemetery
The cemetery contains the remains of 3,812 American World War II military dead; 5,127 names are recorded on the Tablets of the Missing. Most died in the Battle of the Atlantic or in the air campaign over northwest Europe.
