Honda or Toyota, both great I own both brands right now. I know that you in the wild west don't like the French very much but one of the best sedans that I have owned was a Peugeot 305, 2004 It has a nice 2l engine, glass roof, cooler in the glove compartment and more, a great family car. I don't know if they are sold in the US.

wife has an 03 Accord 4 cylinder,,has plenty of power, just make sure you suck it up and get a 4 door,,2 doors are not very easy to fiddle with concerning carseats and toddlers.

Your Passat would come with the 2.0L turbo engine. It's a great engine that's been around 20+ years in various forms (starting with the venerable 2.2t on the original Audi S4). BUT, it's a turbocharged car. Does your wifey like the boost? Does she like checking oil? And oil changes with German Castrol 0w-30? It's a great car. You will spend money on control arms, 75k timing belt/water pump / thermostat jobs. It's not an econo-box where you can go 100k without thinking about maintenance.

Toyota Camry is a solid mid-size sedan. Hybrid is nice for improved fuel efficiency. I think that Hyundai is a great brand too. They've got excellent warranties and their quality is top notch. Maybe look at the Hyundai Sonata. Whatever car catches your wife's fancy make sure to go for a test drive and ask for a demo car to drive for a few days. Any good dealership will work hard for your money. Also, buy near the end of the month if possible. Sometimes that helps on getting a better price for the consumer. FYI... definitely make sure your wife is involved in making the decision if she will be the primary driver for this vehicle.

Really? Thats exactly what I have been looking at is 03-05's accord 4 doors. I found an 03 with 140k 4 cyl ex for $6k I'm looking around that price range and cars from 98-05ish, that seem like a good deal?

My girlfriend is in the same boat as the OP (looking for a car, not prego). We found out the Hyundai warranties aren't always transferrable! The standard transferrable warranty is the same as our Tacomas, 5 year 60,000 powertrain. It was an eye opener for us so I figured I'd pass it along.

Hey man what is your take on the '03 v6's in the accords? Reliable? Do you know if they have timing chain or belt? I am really looking at one that has 140k, smokin deal on it

Being a mechanic, I would recommend a 4cyl instead of a V6, as they have a lot more power than 4 cylinders of old and they are generally way cheaper as far as maintenance goes and of course better MPG. I'd rank the Camry and Accord as pretty much tied for first and the Nissan 2nd all good vehicles really.

wife has 150,000 on it and I wouldn't sell it for $6,000 so depending on everything else seems like a good deal especially if the bulk of miles are highway miles. I do know there was a recall on certain 03 transmissions hers didn't fall under it and I don't know which ones did but you may want to check into it. the sound system in it is pretty good too. Music used to help my kids fall asleeep on long trips:eek:

Definitely go with a Camry. I grew up with one and I loved it, and I still do! :D
