Hey there guys I couldn't find a noob forum so I guess ill post here, ive been expanding my options of suvs and trucks to purchase from and the top two on my list right now are the FJ Cruiser and the Tacoma. If the manual tranny is selected on the tacoma double cab with the short bed, does that mean it is Full time 4wd like the FJC? or is it 2wd and becomes 4wd when engaged?

Another question of mine is since the manual tranny cannot be mated to the double cab with a long bed, does the longer bed offer more cabin space for the rear passengers? Or does it just extend the bed? How much longer is the bed in the Long bed versus the short bed option?

Also is the engine and transmission used in the FJ Cruiser the same as the tacoma 4L V6? I take it no rear locker is offered on the tacoma correct?

There is no awd in the tacoma you have to engage 4wd and they offer a locker in the offraod pkage.

Spend 15 min on the Toyota web site building your Tacoma, it will answer all of your questions.

    Welcome to TW

The short bed size is 5' the long bed is 6' also, theres no difference in the cab size on those two versions, double cabs have the same cab size...

And better MPG without all those parts spinning unnecessarily all of the time.

I didn't realize you couldn't get a 6MT with the DC LB, but it doesn't surprise me too much. You also can't get the TRD Offroad on a DC LB. I assume these configuration limitations are just because they don't expect them to be popular... not because the 6MT tranny or Offroad locker & chrome are incompatible with the LB version.

Locker is only available in the "Off Road" package. The locker is only needed if you are doing some hard core off-roading. In snow and ice, 4x4 will do just fine as long as you know how to drive in it.

Check out the 3rd and 4th line in the description of the "Off Road" package that you can add on to your Tacoma:
