I searched, but could not find what I was looking for. I just got my bilstein 5100s from downsouth today (thanks guys, really fast shipping and great customer service)! I need about an inch of lift in the front to keep my tires from rubbing so I figure the middle setting is what I need. What I can't seem to understand is how changing the spring resting location by ~.5" can lift the truck 1.25". I am sure it is something really stupid I am missing, but can someone smarter than me please enlighten me as to the physics of the whole thing?

    Thanks in advance!

Well the simple answer is the raising of the coil spring seat which of course raises the spring, the more technical answer (& I'm just taking a swing at it here) is you increase the "Pre load " to the coil & that change in energy dynamic forces the coil upward (in direction the spring is wound I assume:confused: ) Somebody else probably has a better answer :D

Without demonstrating it mathmatically (not that I could do that in any case) because of how far inboard the strut is in relation to the upper and lower ball joints, you get approximatly double the distance in lift for however much lift you put at the strut.

For example, a 2.5" lift spacer doesn't actually measure 2.5" high, more like 1.25", yet when installed above the strut you end up 2.5" higher.

Now that makes sense. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the replies.
