Same here, all my vehicles were manual. Less maintenance and much more enjoyable to drive.

Considering the two opposite sides evident on this thread, either I have the biggest lemon in the world, or you guys are totally delusional. Anyone in the Seattle area is free to drive my truck and tell me if they think it's normal. I really wanted to love my truck but the quality control just wasn't there.

Sounds like you definitely have some sort of rare lemon, what kind of quality control issues are you having?

Go test drive a stick Taco first. I've driven nothing but manuals my entire life and found the clutch feel on the 3rd gen Tacos to be horrendous... ended up going with the auto.

I just got into a 19 sport 6speed manual, and comparing to my 09 regular cab manual I think it feels and operates pretty great. it's a truck, and you will know it's a truck, but i'm not noticing anything about it so far that makes it feel like a terrible truck manual.

I don't really want to get into it, because one of the tw fanboys will butt in and start flaming me, and then this thread will go south in a hurry. But I've had engine hesitation, lugging, clutch pedal problems, diff howl, poor gas mileage, clutch slippage, window screeching in hot weather, driveline vibrations, etc. Just a nightmare overall. Like I said, I really, really wanted to love this truck. She's super handsome and I get compliments all the time. But I also want something that drives properly, and that's where my truck failed.

    Interesting

Could have been the one I test drove, but the engagement point was about 500 feet from the floor and the pedal action felt sticky, like it needed to be greased. The latter was the bigger issue.

^ Interesting, because after they grudgingly did the clutch creak TSB, the engagement is now very low, almost to the floor.

The problem with test drives is the person is excited, possibly maybe a little high from that new car smell off-gassing. A 5-min drive around the block probably isn't going to reveal problems. I suggest an extended test drive, like maybe for the weekend or such. Some dealers will agree to this.

Easily resolved with a clutch Accumulator Delete Kit. Slippage problems gone!

    Trident904,

wish I had the chance to install that and try it out. However, all the other issues on my truck caused me to just give up and lemon it. For anyone thinking of doing the accumulator, I highly recommend dealing with Trident904, he's a cool guy and a straight shooter.

I always recommended extended or overnight test drives too, if you are a serious buyer the dealers usually will let you.

    this and that...
i agree switchback. mines operates as expected. after i installed that hurst shift it just made driving this truck that much more enjoyable. when i was looking at tacos, i took an OR auto for a test drive while my truck was being finalized. i did notice it likes to search through gears a lot especially on hills. maybe putting it into manual mode alleviates that but if thats the case i rather just get the manual and be done with it. in the end its just what your preference is. if you wanna notch through your gears every chance you get then get the standard. if you want to set and forget for the most part then get the auto. its still a taco regardless your choice or trans lol.

previously was running that dc sports knob, but opted for the perrin 453g brz/frs knob. currently searching for some twm weighted knobs since i do like their products a lot.

Third Gen drives like your typical truck with a manual transmission. Mine is getting better and better as I adjust and the new transmission breaks in. Clutch should be good for another 150k...
Thank you Toyota for keeping me in a Tacoma and offering the option.

Wow, i think you definately have some sort of rare lemon. That is a lot of issues, that really sucks man. The only "issue" i had was squaky clutch pedal, which was replaced by dealer. Also had 2 recalls, 1 for TSS milimiter sensor and brake master cylinder. Other than that this thing is a beast:fingerscrossed:. The truck got plenty of power, low end torque and engine is super smooth, no hesitation ever:notsure:

According to TW there were a lot of 2016 owners with similar complaints. 17 should be better. Did you get the latest ECU update? I have 2018 which was built in texas on june 18,2018, im going to dealer for first oil change soon and they will apply the latest ECU update, unless i already have it.

A lot of TW members said if you have 16-17 taco, the ECU update makes a huge difference. My gas mileage is 18-19 average, which i think is amazing, considering truck weighs 4600 pounds and i got e rated all terrains. Was your truck made in mehico? I read a lot of members complain about quality with trucks made in mexico. How many miles you got?
