    Every ship in our navy is a testament, a memorial, a symbol of the dedication, perseverance and ultimate supremacy in the indoctrination of freedom, personified by the great people of the United States of America.

    Huey? Huey Lewis and the News is on the deck? Holy shit. Are they forced to stay and live there 24/7 or do they just perform on deck and play their greatest hits whenever the museum is open?

    I've always wondered how much it costs and how long it takes to build an aircraft destroyer. Those things are mind bogglingly huge

    A wha? Lol

    The USS Gerald Ford has exceeded $13bn without R&D costs, and not everything on the ship works as it should, including the catapult, arresting gear, and elevators. Kinda important those things work on an aircraft carrier, y'know? So the price tags keeps going up. Think it took five years from when it was laid down to launch.

    The thing has parallels with the F-35 program...

    What's nuts is the sheer size and compliment of one of those things. Average length is ~1100ft and maintains a compliment of 2,500 to FIVE THOUSAND sailors (depending on mission and ship class).

    To put this in perspective, if one of our aircraft carriers was to be sunk with all hands on board, the loss in terms of personnel would be greater than 9/11 or US service member deaths in Iraq.

    :eek:

    The fact engineers created something buoyant that could hold that much weight and be that heavy is mind bogging to my drunk self

    Freedom ain't cheap.
    The harder you work, the more you learn, and the faster ETech outpaces MechTech, the harder it is to keep up;
    they don't let me vote on Military money, but unless you catch that contractor with their hands in your ass pocket, you are going to pay for keeping up, MUCH LESS KEEPING AHEAD. And we must keep ahead.

    Think heavy and ugly things that fly to complete that thought! You have a math mind. You could probably make a train fly if you tried!

    Actually had a brief stint in physics but wasn't for me, thought it would be more mechanically focused but Tech has a huge quantum program they push onto the physics students

    Less pressure on top of the airfoil than beneath it. Bernoulli's principle.

    Wish I was more inclined to know where your niche is, but I do know it exists. You still young. Give it another week.

    Haha not sure yet either, my favorite class so far has been Complex Analysis which is like sequences, derivatives and integrals with complex (imaginary and real) numbers. Was fun
