It’s amazing how fast a lot of the gassers rust out. My wife bought me a real nice one years ago when we got married. Even it rusted out, thought it was just the burners at first and was going to replace them. Went to take it apart and realized it was the entire pan section that wasn’t made of stainless steel like the rest of the grill. Junked it and went to a cheaper charcoal grill until I switched to my current Traeger.

The burners are still good. But yeah its weird...I dont know if its the heat, thin metal, or humidity or combo of it all that rusts them out. The heat shield basically folded in half and the edges were toast like it was in salt water....

My first Weber gasser lasted 20 years, then I wanted a bigger one.

Never replaced anything on the old one, even an igniter.

I think it’s a combo and propane also causes a lot of water issues from what I’ve read.

I was thinking about it last night and I figured something out. So when I coat the steaks or what not in Montreal seasonings or just S&P, some of the salt and stuff drips off the steaks on to the heat shield. Then next time I turn it on its burned off so to speak. that salt is prob doing the damage...with humidity...

Wonder if wrapping it in aluminum foil might help? I keep the one in my smoker covered and I change it out. It's stayed pretty nice through the last 4-5 years now.

Those folks with Weber gas grills that last forever - raise your hands! My Genesis Gold is 19 years old now. Yes I've replace parts. Once I stripped it down completely replaced the burners and all, (4 years ago). I got sick of the replacement ENAMEL cooking grates and found these to be much better. Actual rods v. the supposed superiority of sheet metal grates. The rods are decent OD so should last OK:

I usually cook the fajitas in cast iron pans. Ut now that my patio is actually usable, it was time to try them on the grill. Veggies on a grill mat, chicken on a griddle.

No tortillas because I'm going all low carb for a while.

Looks good. Have you thought about a flat top grill? They are very useful.

I've looked at them but haven't taken the plunge yet. Up until last year I hadn't used the grill for about 7 years because the patio was too damn hot. New houses are great but no shade sucks.

Now that the shade issue has been resolved, I'm trying to make up for lost time. I better move that flat top up on my list!
