I just replaced my clutch in my 99 tacoma 4x4. It will not engage 1st 3rd or 5th gears. Doesnt matter if the truck is running or not. What could be stopping it from moving upward. The seal in the shifter is good too

Assuming you removed the shift-lever during the clutch-job, you may have miss-assembled the shifter when it went back together. Otherwise, there's a plastic shifter saddle-ring that can crumble, and leave chunks to lodge in the shifter slider/fork mechanism. Should be able to pull the shifter, and if needed, the top shift-linkage cover to inspect, without removing the tranny.

Four years ago, I bought my '96 Tacoma for only $400, because the gear-shift would not go into first or third gear. All other gears were fine.
I did a 'quick-fix' by forcing the shifter and it finally went into both gears.
After that, it was still hard to get into those gears, but it gradually got easier until the problem was gone several weeks later.
I'm absolutely NOT recommending you try this with your's, except at your own risk!
Three years later, when I changed the clutch, and pulled the shifter, I saw there was nothing left of the saddle except a few crumbs! So it finally got a new shift saddle kit.

    Happy Motoring, Mark

when you re-installed the shift lever into the trans did you verify that all of the shift rods were aligned?

Holy !@#%. That's what it was. I have had trouble for 2 months now. Hate to admit that. Lol. Thanks alot Glamisman. I had the rods moved off from where they needed to be. I'm beside myself. Thanks again

Its better utilized as a place to check the going price for a used truck.

I prefer to think of it as a place where 2nd gen owners get all upitty at how much better 1st gens hold their value than the 2nd gens...

Great to hear! Don't be embarrassed man. And Glamisman is a huge asset to our little community. I've learned TONS just from reading his posts and Dirtypool posts. These guys know a lot of stuff
