What most people are saying wait and you'll find a truck for a decent great price

I bought my 1st gen at a auction for 3500 I had to trust it and I didn't have the patients to wait any longer for a Tacoma so I bought it got it home fixed it all up broke the frame.......a lot....

Then I got extremely lucky after I bought this truck I should have bought a lotto ticket

Then I found a guy that had no idea what he had my 2007 TRD Sport it has high kilometres about 270k km it had one thing wrong with it the engine was gone so the guy thought he was being fair Sold the truck for $700 I called around looking for engines about 2000-2700 figured doable looked around on adds to see how much other people sold this truck for was any where from 13k - 16k

Found a engine for about 1000

So you could say technically I bought my 2007 for $1700

I've been sitting on mine for a while. It's time for a new truck for me, but I have actually zero problems with mine. I'm going back and forth on selling it. I'll put it up on Craigslist and I have idiots trying to lowball me for $7-$8k. It's my daily driver and I don't offroad. Just use it to haul my musical equipment. I priced it high to allow for wiggle room, but my rock bottom price is $11k for TW and friends only. Won't go any lower and I won't haggle, because I know someone will buy it eventually. lol. Check it out if you want, OP.

I have had several, and my recent truck took me over a year to find. I literally looked every day, several times a day. It's a 2004 xcab TRD, one owner adult owned truck and has been serviced at Toyota its entire life, all documented factory recommended service. I gave 9500, I wouldn't take $20 thousand for it, and have already been offered $12. I may have overpaid a little and I would have paid more. Why, well I like first gens, could care less about the new ones, and don't want to spend another year and a half on Craigslist and Autotrader. I guess it depends on what you like and how much cash you are willing to let go. Market price means nothing to me, and I will end up spending several thousand more building it the way I want anyway. Bottom line is, decide what you want, be patient looking for the right one, and be prepared to let go of the cash when you find it.

toyotas are known for their reliability. Plain and simple (except for turd gens) you get what you pay for. Save till you can afford a clean, well kept low mileage truck. Mine was a 1 owner, no rust, 108k miles on the clock, lots of maintenance records, for 14k. A pretty good deal in my neck of the woods.

I got an '01 Ext. cab (AZ truck all it's life) for $10,900. Cool part is that the truck was an RV tow vehicle and only had 60k on the engine and interior! I drove it to VT and undercoated the shit of it as soon as I got it here.

While it is true that car washes with rotating brushes are bad for paint, you will find that most Fremont California built Gen 1 Tacomas that have not been garaged have failing paint. Many were already delaminating within a few years of ownership. This is due to California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved paint used at the time, which lacked the solvents and solids found in long lasting quality automotive paints found elsewhere. Paint technology has improved, but trucks built in Texas or Mexico have better paint than the Fremont ones do.

Interesting site, my truck was built in Fremont I see, I'm the original owner, has not been repainted, is white, NO clear coat was used on my truck, paint is in amazing original condition, yes I garage it, but
with 535,000 miles it's definitely been out in the sun with little effects

I bought an 04 with 135,000 miles for $11K in the PA/NJ area. The major selling point was a brand new frame installed at a dealership. It is a four door, 6 cylinder, and base 4x4, no lockers. Manual locks and windows. I thought I overpaid, but this thread has me feeling I didn't.

I suppose you already know, but check the frame first. Frame rust is the first gen owner's biggest fear.

Oh good. As if we needed another "are 1st gens worth the price?" thread, someone necroposts an old one, lol

(also, no such thing as a 2004 TRD OR. It's just a TRD, the ORs didn't come out until the 2nd best gen)
