Manual transmission Fan Club and BS thread (All Generations Welcome)

The manual is the only transmission this truck should come with. The gearing is MUCH better suited for the motor. I had an auto for a while and it’s a night and day difference between the two, it’s a completely different truck.

 

Yeah I have been seeing alot of negatives about the auto. I’m getting the manual.

 

Love my ‘10 six speed manual. Gonna get a TRD short throw shifter and row gears until the Grim Reaper comes for me.

 

When Toyota stops production of manuals I’ll rebuild my own. Without all the nanny bullshit included.

 

After the first one is done, I’m sure you could get a steady stream of buyers for as many as you could make

 

A manual is not for everyone because you have to be smarter than the transmission.

 

I’m gonna to need a lot of FJ60 bodies then. Also you can have one in any color you like as long as that color is tan.

 

Little update turned the handle to almost 1 o’clock; dude. Dude. I may never go back to a T handle

 

There’s no other color worth buying!

 

Because the computer knows what gear to be in better than you do

Sucks about the XRS getting totaled... I had a 2005 back in the day and I loved it! They are getting harder to find nowadays. Congratulations on the Taco!

MT question for the experts out there...

Yesterday I was in heavy stop/start traffic and was slowly making my way through an intersection, keeping an eye on the traffic flow ahead. I revved up in first gear and then dropped into neutral as I coasted and waited for cars ahead to make room. Then I wanted to get into second gear and continue accelerating. I absolutely could not get the shifter into second gear. It was like it was blocked by a gate. I tried double clutching and still couldn't get it into second.

I started to freak out a bit as the light was about to turn and I didn't want to be just drifting dead in the intersection. I was able to get the shifter back into FIRST gear and proceed that way.

What happened, why, and how can I stop it from happening again?

 

Did you do the side to side jiggle?

My guess is you got off being in neural and got through the reverse gate and can’t pull back from there.

 

Interesting! I was jiggling like a fool. Maybe I jiggled too far left and triggered the reverse gate!

2 years later, the location of Reverse on this 6MT still gives me fits. I grew up driving only 5 speeds.

 

Anyone here catch themselves doing the "air stomp" when going to start an automatic? I do that every now and then when I drive the wife's car, hard habit to break lol

 

Air stomp is better than the 'brake stomp', which I have done and nearly wrecked my mother's car several years ago going through an intersection.

 

I do get a laugh out of the double wide brake pedals on some cars, usually domestics. I suppose, if you want to try and stand on it, there's room.

Gimme a tight three pedal group any day.

 

Yikes...don't think I've ever stomped the brake in error luckily, that could be really bad.
