It really depends on where the truck is located if that is an unreasonable price. $16k does sound a bit high, but in some areas of the country if you find a low mileage rust free TRD 4x4, it's worth its weight in gold.

Also depends on how bad you want one, too. For me personally, I wouldn't pay $500 for a '69 Shelby Mustang even though they're worth easily... twice (?) that. I just don't want one... I paid over $20k for my Tacoma, though...

My 02 DC Pre Runner Supercharged 4cyl with 71k original miles is easily worth $20k plus

super looking truck!, but with no 4wd it might not be too high of demand in my area, got unpredictable snowstorms to manage!
i do know how to manage a rwd in the snow pretty well, but most nowdays (since the Front wheel drive became the norm) would freak out with the back spinning on slick stuff
but to someone in sunny CA oh heck ya

My sticker says the same thing. But the "Off Road" was not an actual model distinction until the 2nd gens.

I was talking to a young guy Sunday at Tractor Supply ,upstate NY with a 1st gen. Tacoma 4 door 4wd. I asked him if the frame was rusted... everything there is rusted badly. He said the frame was swapped 2-3 years ago and then he bought it with about 60 k miles on it. It was in really nice shape and he used it as a truck. I don't know what he paid for it but he was sure happy with it.

What do you mean by "model distinction"? Specifics.
The "TRD Off Road" package that was added to our trucks shows on the window sticker as optional equipment yeah. And the truck is "distinctly modeled" as "Prerunner Double Cab 4x2 V6".
But my truck, in my estimation, is in fact a 2001 Tacoma Limited TRD Off Road model. Why? The factory built it that way as a "distinct model" one could opt for then.

With the 2nd gens you have the TRD sport, TRD Off Road, and the TRD Pro.

I just mean that the "off-road" part or "TRD off road" is superfluous since that's all that was offered in our generation. It was a TRD or it wasn't. Limited is another option package on top of the TRD package.

Superfluous? Eye of the beholder IMO. It's merely a set of decals stating that this truck's equipped so. Hey we got a couple of "real" non-superfluous add-ons with that "TRD Off Road" distinction; mainly the progressive springs and rear diff locker.
I get your main point here.
And I realize the Limited thing was separate...I have the ol' window sticker here in front of me-I was just "summing up" what I felt was the model distinction of this Taco.

Things are worth what people are willing to pay for it. Saying that, I think some people ask ridiculous prices for them.

Lowball? It’s private party and that’s part of the game. Is there such a thing as highball?

I own one and it took me more than 6 months of researching the market in my area before I was comfortable with the price/condition ratio.
