TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

What are your guys thoughts on supercharging an automatic transmission truck? Part of me feels like I'd need a MT to really enjoy the boost but not sure. Anyone care to chime in? Ready to pull the trigger lol.

 

There are quite a few of us with Automatic transmissions. Are manuals more fun to drive? Hell yeah. But the auto is what I have.

Im loving mine as well. Im running the UCon so it can adapt fueling for when meth is spraying. I added it for an extra layer of knock protection. I turn mine up during the summer and dial it back a little during the winter

 

The manual transmission equipped taco is sort of it's own niche group of people. When you talk about boosted manual tacos you are further narrowing that group down to a handful. This thread is predominantly ruled by A5 owners including myself. Being boosted rocks regardless of being auto or manual though. Pick your poison if you want in the club.

 

Trade it for a manual, and boost it. You won't regret your decision

 

Autos are the best. Even the new Supra is auto only.

I personally have an auto and love it. No regrets

 

My knee wouldn't tolerate a manual even if we had less traffic here. I like manuals, but I'm happy with an auto. Food for thought....
If a manual was superior in all ways why doesnt Mercedes build one?

 

Autos have surpassed manuals in terms of performance and efficiency (in general, maybe not always true for the Tacoma) which is why most manufacturers don't bother making them anymore...combined with the fact that most people would rather not have to worry about working a clutch.

But autos will never have manuals beat when it comes to smiles per miles. They're just more fun to drive IMO, that's something autos can't take away from them. This is wildly subjective though, of course. I don't have any problem driving one in LA every day and haven't for the past 16 years, but others might see that differently.

 

I have a manual and love driving it, especially with a SC. It's about the driving experience, actually being engaged in the act of shifting and pushing the clutch, choosing gears... it's the best!

 

When I was 18 I bought a manual. When I was 27, I bought an auto. The two things are somewhat related. I loved rowing gears as a kid but a decade of driving a bit of stick for my old job tired that out fast lol.

 

Its relative to your desires and needs really. Most people here including myself have surpassed their youthful days rowing manual transmissions couple tired knees with sitting in lots of city stop and go traffic and manual transmission vehicles are no longer very practical for that said demographic. Both are a fantastic choice, and both are equally as fun. Auto transmission equipped boosted tacos need a little clean up work if you plan to push pulley sizes smaller than 2.8, but the benefits far outweigh the small amount of work needed in the end.

 

I mean, do you like having fun bro? Lol. It’s an expensive hobby but worth the time and $$$$ in my opinion.

 

How difficult is the install? I went on the snow performance site and didn’t seem too bad.

 

Moving forward with the discussion i am disappointed to say that the FJ cruiser/ 4runner Dual VVTi air cleaner assembly will not be a direct fit for myself. My strut tower bar interferes and the airbox will not fit otherwise.

Anyone interested in doing a retrofit on their more OE setup? I now have a 2010 and up Tundra air cleaner assembly and a 2010 and up FJ Cruiser/ 4runner air cleaner assembly. MAF sensor included for both.
