Gardening Thread - Show me your gardens!

We have had a hard time this year getting anything done.Lettuce,kale,spinach,arugula.Late start on tomatoes and beans..but things are starting to click now.We have Israel and Cherokee tomatoes,round yellow cucumbers,radishes (2 kinds),greasy and Roma beans,carrots (not doing well),snap peas,golden zucchini.Yet to plant a couple different okra's and small potatoes and whatever else my wife decides.
Part of what we have been doing is cutting in a new 30 X 15 ground area.We bought a single axle truck load of compost and some other soil to tiller in to the ground.
And the dear net is for a dog that can't seem to keep out of the boxes

 

how does one protect cherries from birds?

drape it over the tree? They are in their first full year of being in the ground but had cherries when I bought the trees.

Robins mostly that Ive noticed for sure...maybe something else but if so they dont come through very often...

 

Yes, drape it unless you feel like building a structure to support

unfortunate lol robins seem to be the best at finding holes in the coverage to exploit. And you can’t shoot them legally anyhow

 

Aphids are after my tomato plants big time. I sprayed them off with water and then applied a mixture of baking soda, Dawn, olive oil and water. Any other suggestions?

I have finally got my garden pretty much organized in boxes with extras as seedlings that I have to remove and give away. Carrots are finally starting to really take off . Pumpkin , tomatoes, beans , peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, basil, cilantro. Weather has finally made up its mind

 

I always heard soapy water sprayed on them helps, but I’d don’t have that problem. My biggest battle is with squash vine borers and cucumber beetles. I plan on trying Captain jacks dead-bug on the regularly at least one a week starting in mid June. Any suggestions would be helpful

Edit: I will be buying CJ in a quart size in concentrate to apply with my sprayer. Also have Neem oil in concentrate but heard that CJ has other properties that works on aphids.

 

A guy at the nursery recommended this for bagworms on my Cypress trees. I might pick some up.

 

Get a bag of ladybugs. I bought a half-pint when we first set the garden up.

 

I might try that too. I have seen lots of lady bugs in past years but none this year.

 

You can use Green Lacewings as well, but they're a lot more $$

 

My boxes and bags. I 4 extra toms , eggplant, summer squash, pumpkins, and cucumbers ( latter 2 from seed yet to pop out) that I will be giving away. Letting them get a little bigger before I pot them

 

I'm so far behind this year it's not even funny; we've had such a cold wet spring that my peas and pole beans are barely poking through the soil. Usually by now they're 2 feet high on their trellises. The squash FINALLY started emerging from their seeds over the weekend, but about half of them still haven't shown up. I put the Tomatoes out about 2 weeks ago and they've stalled; no real growth to speak of since then.
Even my mint is behind where it would normally be, and it's got the advantage of some heat from the foundation to give it a head start.

 

One more week

 

Got any tips on growing carrots? I put a whole row out right next to the radishes (they are doing great).Maybe 1/3 popped out.Talked to a grower here locally at the farmers market and he said they were just difficult to grow..?
