Maybe it's that I don't understand the IFS system but I cannot figure out a problem with my 2007 DC 4x4 Taco for the life of me!!

Coilovers up front, Camburg upper A-arms with uni-ball, 3 leaf progressive leaf pack in rear.

I have a HORRIBLE sound when slowly turning the steering wheel. It's not a pump whine/sound..It's a metal binding sound.

It happens when I turn the wheel VERY little, even if I am outside of the vehicle and push sideways on the front tire I get the sound..Very small movements produce big sound.

It doesnt matter if the vehicle is in the air, or on the ground...BUT I have noticed the sound is louder/worse if I am stopped facing downhill, in other words if there is added weight on the front end.

I've checked fluids, steering racks, steering rack bushings, I've pulled the swaybar, pull the wheel spacers, pulled tires, basically done everything I can to eliminate some possibilites.

The sound is coming from the driver wheel well but I cannot pinpoint it any further.

OH, also, shifting in 4x4 has NO effect on the noise....

Could it be my lower balljoint being I have just swapped in a uni-ball to replace the uppers? I did get a small needle fitting for my grease gun and poked a small hole in the balljoint boot to lube it up but the sound never changed.

I checked my CV's for excess play, but I don't have any more than the rest of you guys on the website (ive read the thread about excess play)

It's not my steering stops because this happens with ANY small change in steering input.

I've checked my rag joint and steering linkage..

Please help me...I am going crazy :(:(:(

Sorry. Was it you that pm'ed me a day or 2 ago? I was having similiar problems.
Did you check play in your wheel. (6 an 12 ok)?
I have also heard metallic brake pads can make that noise as well.

I dont know if it is lift related or not...I got the truck, drove it for anout 2 hrs then lifted it.

Why poke a hole?? Yes I understand the balljoint is sealed, but I thought it would be a free experiment and see if that balljoint was infact dry the source of the noise. After greasing nothing had changed,

I've done the 6oclock/12oclock rock and haven't noticed any excessive play...

Yea. My noise has seemed to fad away a bit. Not worried about it like I once was. I got no play in the tire so I'm just gonna get it alligned and be done with it.

Did you happen to grease the bushings before the UCA was installed?

Generally you will hear bearings at 40mph and above. Not at super slow speeds while turning.
I originally thought my noise was a bearing as well. I took it to a front end specialist and he said it was unlikely that thats what it was if I wasn't hearing anything at greater speeds.

Yes, the UCA bushings were pre-greased with small packets that Camburg supplied, then I topped them up again with my grease gun. UCA bolts are torqued to spec.

Ok, so your sitting in a parkinglot and you turn your steering wheel 1" to the left or right, what just moved?

Upper uni-ball - Brand new, and torqued properly
Steering rack - No signs or leaks, bushings in good shape
Lower ball joint - Had greased, but didnt change anything,
Wheel bearing - Could be small movement as a result of wheel turning?
Wheel and Wheel spacer - Could be some lateral pressure being applied, but I eliminated those options
Tie rod end - Should move a small amount,

What else do I look at? I feel like I've checked every moving part.

I am going to pick up a new wheel bearing on the way home tonight, worst case swap it in and if nothing changes I can remove it and return it to the parts store.
