Thanks 06... I still want to know why you get almost half the mileage of others here? I can't do much better than 17 most of the time... but 10!!??

Yep, mine is similar. It may take just a little bit more than 17.5 for me.

just filled up again today. 4 miles pass the e-light and it took 17.1 gallons there is another 1.5 gallons till the needle rests firmly on E and then 2.5 after that for a total of 4 gallons after the e-light

Is this changing to a gas price thread? I last paid $3.01/ gallon for 87 in San Diego North County (Costco). I have seen $2.99-$3.33 driving around yesterday.

Back of the manual for 2nd gens says tank is 21.7 gal. I'd say you have about 4 gal left when the light goes on from my experience.

It would be of great help if you folks put a dollar sign ($) in front of a figure so we know you are talking PRICE instead of the # of gallons left when the needle is on E.

So, Karo... you are (also) changing this from a gallon thread to a price thread? LOL!

Remember, even if people reply off the topic... it bumps your post to the top of the list of 'New Posts' so more or new people will see it!

Yes, you were below E and put 19.1 gallons in...

How long before one of us RUNS OUT, and then fills up to tell us they actuall put in 21 gallons or more?

I was going to run it out completely but I've heard I shouldn't let whatever settled in the tank besides gas at the bottom run through the fuel system.

Well, the original point of this thread is how many gallons when your gauge needle is on E (because it is NOT completely empty on the line), not below E, not empty, not when the light comes on... but on E. I think we have given the OP everything under the sun, including how much it cost us! LOL

I think we have gathered the answer is 2.5 to 3, which accounts for the amount of miles the needle stays over the E.

Okay, since some of are having fun with this...

Today, I topped my tank off (Costco Gas, Vista CA, $2.999/ gal 87 octane)

The gauge was below 1/4 but not yet at 1/8 (that is half the distance to the E line for those of you in Rio Linda).

I topped the tank with 14.8 gallons (means there was still 6.2 gallons in it). I traveled 251 miles, so that means I got 17 mpg... but that isn't important.

What we have concluded is that there is well over 5.25 gallons when the gauge shows 1/4 tank (1/4 of 21 gallon tank = 5.25) and most of us feel from experience and or measuring that there is ~7.7 gallons at the 1/4 tank marker.

Since I was below the 1/4 marker (but no light had come on), and had 6.2 gallons still in the tank... it still seems we are on the right track...
I was between the 1/4 mark and the low fuel light with 6.2 gallons.

1/2 mark on gauge = 11.6 gallons in tank (9.4 to fill)
1/4 mark on gauge = 7.7 gallons in tank (13.3 to fill)
Low Fuel Light = 3.5-4.0 gallons in tank (17-17.5 to fill)
E line on gauge = 2.5 gallons in tank (18.5 to fill)

Some more input needed on how many gallons to fill when the light comes on (level ground) to see where most of us are.
