I run the general grabber ATX 265/70/17. If you go much more you’ll need to trim.

 

Not to mention your nice paint job gets f**ked up...been there done that.

My word. OP asked about a 9" wide wheel.

 

The offset will really determine your stance. A wider wheel doesn’t always stick out further.

The problem with our trucks is the cab mount. The wider the tire/stance the higher probability of contacting it. Even with a lift your challenge is a wide tire. A lot of people run skinny tires.

A spacer should really only be used to correct offset due to clearance issues and there haven’t really been any reported issues with them that I have seen.

Negative offset will push the wheel outward while a positive offset will push it inward. So consider that when looking for wheels. Additionally, wider wheels will have different offsets than thinner ones so make sure you are comparing apples to apples when browsing wheels.

Who cares what the OP wants to do. It’s his truck. If you don’t like wider tires or wouldn’t put them on your truck, then skip on to the next thread

 

I used a set of 4Runner Trail wheels on my '19 Sport 4WD with 265-70-17 tires and it accomplished the goal of taller tire (to fill the wheel wells better) and a slight bit wider stance by a decrease in offset by 10mm. I thought it looked great. And best of all... it didn't rub. But it was close. I don't think I could have run a 275-70 or 265-75 on there.

 

I think this is answering OP's Question. I read his question to be asking about stance width, not wheel width.

OP - If you want a wider stance without using spacers, you'll need to look at wheels with a small offset value. "0" offset or a negative number will push the edge of wheel out farther. i.e. -12 will give you a wider stance than -4. See CZ5's post on the first page, how its pushing out slightly passed the fenders, I'm assuming that's what you want.

If you really did mean wheel width, thats different.

 

The stock Off-Road wheels are 16x7 +25mm offset. The stock tires are 265/70/R16. That is a 30.6in tire height.

From all the research I have done, you can fit a 265/75/R16 which is a 31.6in tire on a stock, non-lifted tacoma on the stock wheels with no rub and no modifications. It is a safe size and really practical.

With that being said, you can also add a 1.25in wheel spacer and there will be no rubbing in this configuration. So if you do the math, you can get a wheel with a 12.5mm offset. This will give you a wider stance and have 0 rub.

Of course you want 17 in wheels. So you can go for a 265/70/R17 tire on your black rhino wheels with a 12mm offset and you should be fine.

I hope this clears things up and makes you more confident in your purchase. You don't want to push the limit of how big you can go. Stay clear of 33's unless you want to lift. 32's are just fine.

 

Thank you both for helping make a little sense of this. So the offset is more important than the tire width to get that slightly wider stance. I don't want the truck to look goofy like some people posted pics of, I just want it to look slightly more aggressive.

 

I would not go any more aggressive than a zero offset or you will start poking out beyond the body of the truck and will likely begin rubbing to some degree. But to each his own. Some folks like that look and will do what it takes to achieve it.

 

No problem. Yea, that's the gist of it.

Here's a pic of my wheels, they're 0 offset, with .75" spacer. Personally I like that they sit just outside of the wheel well.



If you don't use the spacer, it would sit flush with, or just behind the fender flare.
