Yeah welding some rails that have it aswell. Going to hold some crazy heavy equipment, will only need to move for maintenance a couple ft. They are pretty hot when we get to them:)

If I was doing this why not run the wiring heavy enough for a 50 amp circuit then use what breaker you need for the draw of the machine your using.

Once and done not sure just how far of a run from the breaker box to your outlet will be.

Much easier now then adding it down the road .

Then I am one to talk running 4 sub panels

The panel to nearest corner of the garage is probably like a 10ish foot run. Of course now the hamster wheel is going on whether to install a 220 on each corner so I can run welders anywhere and a big 80 gallon air compressor.

I'd just put an outlet in a fairly central location and get a big ass extension cord so you can reach the welder wherever.

Anyone got advice on taking up welding as a career?

I'm at a point in my life where I need a career change that pays my ass what I'm worth. (Billions, obviously) I'm looking up school courses and such at my local community college. Trying to stay local as I still have to make payments on my truck and other stuff. 30 years old.

I didn't ask for "Pragmatic Randy". I would much prefer "Protagonist Randy" to support my wildly overkill ideas. :D

But yes, that's most likely what I'd do.

I put in 3, 220 volt, 30 amp circuits. 2 of the circuits have 2 plugs on them.

10 gauge wire and 30 amp breakers is the best bang for the buck. I've never tripped a breaker even running my 5 hp compressor and plasma cutter at the same time on the same circuit.

He has a point. the 1st thing I do is remove the "stiffer than a wedding prick" 6' cords that come on most welders and install my own 25' cord with a twist lock plug. The 50 amp plug that most welders come with is just ridiculous when very few welders need 50 amps.

Nevada, MO is a really good one that I know of. An hour and some minutes away from me.

MCCKC offers classes for it though.

I'm still using the giant plug that came with my welder. I basically have to step on the receptacle and pull super hard to unplug it. I made an extension cord which was 10/3 and that goes to an air conditioner 20A 240v circuit I have in my house.

If you can afford to run the extra wire go for it the more outlets the better it royally sucks to be plugging and unplugging .

I see so many problems of people pulling a leg off the plug and nothing works and they never check the simple first

I've lost an electrical leg off my 220 power twice while welding! Holy shit! All those amp thru one leg vaporizes the MIG welder tip! Not fun.

Craig has it right. If you can keep from plugging and unplugging the welder, you will increase reliability.

It was going to cost me $50,000.00 to run the 3 phase less then a mile

    I like the idea.

    More than I'm making now.

    I have not.

I already have a job and they do not fund education unless it relates directly to the company itself.
