    Hi TW,

Currently I have an 02 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4.

Seriously considering finally getting rid of the old girl and buying a new 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x2 short bed in Cement color. I'd like a more aggressive look and I really like the look of the 17 TRD PRO/SEMA Wheels (265/70R17). Was thinking of buying the wheels from eBay and having Costco install them with new tires. Will this work? Can I add these size wheels/tires to a stock 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x2? Do I need spacers or anything else in order to get these mounted? Should I instead look at the 16" rim? Any dangers / pitfalls I should consider before doing so?

Was reading somewhere if you change the size of the tire to a larger / heavier wheel /tire, it would make the transmission bog down. With this, you should really consider changing the gearing of the truck. Don't want to do this. Does this apply to the swap I'm considering?

Also, are there any pros and cons about which tire brand to choose? On my 02, I've been running the T/A KO AT since she was a newborn. I'm not married to that tire but I do like the aggressive look, so if there are positives to getting a different tire brand, then please let me know your thoughts.

Would love to hear from anyone that has done this swap on their 3rd gen Tacoma or has knowledge of doing this swap.

Any and all input is much appreciated!

Can someone please just tell me one thing. Can I install these 17” TRD Pro wheels on my stock 2019 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport without with the stock suspension? Will they bolt right on? I’m okay with a little rubbing on full turn, just need to know if they will fit on my stock suspension?

You should not have any issues with that wheel and tire size. They will fit the stock 3rd gen. Don't need to regear as you are really aren't getting that much bigger tires

TRD SEMA wheels will fit on a 2019 TRD Sport with no modifications. The Wheels are 17x7 (265/70/17 is the tire size). I purchased my set during the TRD performance sale & then had Costco do the install. Installation cost $70 total & it includes free balance & rotation.

    Sweet!
Now I need to figure out what size lug nuts I need to buy. Anybody know what size I need for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma double cab / TRD sport? Are they just the regular lug nuts for these wheels?

Just use your stock lugs, they will work with TRD pro rims. Or need mag lug nuts 12 x 1.5

I also wanted to get the TRD Pro wheels, but the matte instead of SEMA. I have 285/70/17 tires. Are they too big to fit the pro wheel? I think I read somewhere that the SEMA are 17x7.5 but the matte pros are 17x7. My tires say min of 7.5" width so thats where I am most concerned

Sorry, I’m not sure whether or not those will fit. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I have since figured out that technically yes they will but it's not safe longterm. The SEMA version wheels which are a satin finish are 8in wide so they'd work. However the TRD Pro, which have a matte finish, are only 7in and therefor would not be safe

The wheels known as SEMAs on here are the 17x7 matte finish wheels from the 4Runner Pro. Tacoma Pro wheels should be 16x7 in a glossy finish. Anything else you see on eBay is a knock off.

Why not get the 4x4? It's only a few grand more and will help tremendously with the resell value. The difference in mpg is minimal

I hear ya, but I’m slowing down as I get older. Different priorities.

I have an 2019 Sport also and the stock wheels are 17x7.5 and the ones you are looking at are 17x7. So you will have a narrower wheel. I have seen 17x8 or 17x8.5 knockoffs.

It may be narrower, but I have noticed when I have passengers in the truck the tires rub the wheel well when I am entering say a driveway. No big deal, but it does rub. I bought my TRD Pro’s off Amazon... I think they’re legit. Don’t believe they are fakes.
