2nd gen (2010) Double-Din Kit Questions

1. I'm only finding kits from
   $35 Scosche TA2053S9B Double DIN Radio Install Dash Kit Compatible with Select 2009-2011 Toyota Tacoma - Aftermarket Car Stereo Installation Kit - See Fit Guide in Images to Verify Vehicle Compatibility
   Scosche or Metra, are there any other options out there?
2. If anyone has used either of those kits, does it get so deep that you can't access side controls easily? (Considering the
   Sony XAVAX210SXM 6.4" Apple Car Play Android Auto CD /DVD Receiver with Bluetooth
   Sony XAV-AV210 but that knob on the left looks like it might be a pain to manage in the above dash kits.)

Make own custom fab

 

I guess that is an option, but I lack the resources for a custom fabrication.

 

Make from fiberglass man.

 

The dash kits have like 10 different holes for the head units to mount to, allows you to adjust the headunit during install. So it can sit flush with the kit if you’d like

 

that is the helpful advice I'm looking for! maybe it should've been obvious, but I missed that in the product pics. Thanks @NYCTaco52, I feel better about getting one of those now.

 

what does crutchfield say?

 

after comparing both Metra and Scosche on Crutchfield, it looks like Metra will allow for more fine tuning, while the Scosche seems to be a little better build quality. Metra is probably my choice. thanks for the suggestion, I'd just been using Amazon.

 

I personally hate Crutchfield. I’ve had a lot of issues with them in the past. And although they’ve gotten better over the years, I’ve stayed away because of those issues. Install is easy.

In terms of which dash kit to go with, I honestly feel like they are both the same quality. I haven’t noticed much difference after using both in multiple cars. I’d just go with the one that was the best price

 

thanks @NYCTaco52! Curious, did you do a double-din install in a 2nd gen Tacoma recently? If so, which head unit did you use? Been considering the Sony XAV-AX210 or a comparable Pioneer unit. Would love to get the iDatalink Maestro capability, retain steering wheel controls, etc. Not sure I care about getting the rear video feed moved from the mirror to the HU, but it might be nice to have that too.

 

I went with the pioneer wu8500. Expensive, but a great system. I left the rear camera feed in the mirror. Easy install, just time consuming. Also used the Maestro MRR for controls and engine data link.
