guess that would explain no reply on my text. had talked to my safelite guy the last time he was at my house (he comes 3x per year guaranteed) and he says that the new tacomas with the TSS have to go back to the shop for a recalibration for the system if the windshield gets replaced. not sure if that is true.

I did read your post #84361.
So, I basically just need to find an angle gauge first and go from there...
Pinion shaft angle should equal front driveshaft angle. If not, remove carrier drop spacer first. If still not close enough, then add the proper degree axle shims. Correct?

I always thought the Hilux and Taco were basically the same, just different features like IFS for Tacos because Americans want road manners and comfort over off road capability and toughness. I did not realize they were different body style. I was looking for a Taco with a Hilux label.

    Another old Hilux I found

    A thing or two...
The second gen Tacoma is where the divergence happened, but it's basically body styling changes.

Pickups and T100s were a Hilux. I think the 1st gen was still basically a hilux as well.

I did a lot of research on driveline geometry trying to understand how everything works. Here are two articles...
    www.4xshaft.com/driveline101.html
    https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Driveline-101.shtml
I have a couple of more articles but these are the best. There are also YouTube videos by driveline manufactures demonstrating what the articles described. Sorry if I seemed preaching.
There are also posts on TW describing how members tried various modifications.
Understanding the design engineering makes it easier. The reason the transfer case cardan cannot be more than 4* is the angle is speed dependent. The more the angle the slower it can turn. Tacoma cardan joints are made from forged steel so they are very strong. Toyota puts a 1.5* shim in base on early reports of vibration. There was a TSB on this.

Yes. That is how I solved the problem and according to the articles that solution works. If you have time read the referenced articles and watch the videos. Understanding the engineering will help you.

How big are the chips? I had safelite repair my windshield recently and you can barely tell it is there. Just saying, if the chips are small enough then you may want to consider repairing instead of replacing.

Nice. I'll take one! Especially if it comes with power steering...haha.

Haha. I love that branding. Like what if our Taco's had door badges under the "Tacoma" one that said, "Dome Lights".

Sounds like they did handle it right, but damn just the thought of this happening is bad enough. I wonder how many others this has happened to without being discovered....
