So in the process of removing and replacing my throw out bearing I had to remove the Y pipe to remove the transmission. It all went fine till I went to put it all back together...I broke 3 of the 4 bolts that attach the Y pipe to the exhaust manifolds, and and the 1 bolt that attaches the drivers transmission support to the exhaust manifold.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm thinking right now of just drilling out the 4 studs and putting grade 5-7 bolts with crimped lock nuts thru the holes and replacing them that way. Are grade 5-7 bolt alright to use or should I use stainless?

I would use galvanized however idk how well it would take the heat. the reason those bolts broke was because of the heat. constant heating and cooling must have weakened them over time.

btw love the busted a nut title.

Well I figured I'd get creative with it! Fit my situation perfectly.

Gerber, what Y pipe did you get?

And after I have replaced these bolts (I dont wanna drive around town with a leak for a long time) I'm goin to get DT long tube headers, Pipe Bomb Y pipe and MBRP XP dual exhaust. I have a sweet wish list of mods I just made in addition to the things i just mentioned.

    Light weight flywheel
    Stage II clutch
    URD Short throw shifter
    URD TCAI

Trying to keep a low budget mod list going...

Use a good high temp antisieze and you'll never have a problem once you get them off the first time.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Galvanized is not good for those temperatures. Stainless in the way to go.

So I was told if i wanted to make it easy to take the manifold off the engine to remove the broken bolts. If I'm gonna do that I might as well put the headers on...in the mean time while I wait for cash to purchase the DT long tube's, whats the best idea...just drill out one bolt? The drivers side has both bolts broken and the passenger side has just one...my exhaust leak is obviously on the drivers side..lol

Got the leaks fixed. Went thru 4 cobalt drill bits. I don't ever wanna do that again, it was a freakin pain in the ass.

i just got done replacing my to bearing and installing my stage 3 clutch with lw flywheel (i dont like the clutch chatter and should have just stuck with stock and the lw flywheel is nothing special either)......anyways i also broke 3 exhaust bolts. I cussed a lot and then I cut them off, drilled a small pilot hole, drilled them out and replaced with stainless.
