Dirt bike accident out near sheep’s bridge. Girl didn’t have a helmet or any gear on. In and out of consciousness/along with shock, severe bleeding that we luckily controlled, severe road rash, broken ribs, dislocated shoulder, open wounds to her head, internal bleeding, and broken wrist/hand. Couldn’t get a helo back where we were located so we had to drive her out. Moved her out to a location with a signal and after about 20 dropped calls, finally got a DPS helicopter out there to medevac her. This was back in January. She’s been on a long road to recovery but was doing well as of April. Buddy and I are combat medics and we’re glad we had our trauma kit that day. I’ve always got mine in my truck. I’ve since added my dual band ham radio to the truck and will be picking up a garmin inreach soon.

All this talk about disaster preparedness. I hope y’all seriously consider having a sat messenger in the truck when you’re “off the grid” or away from society. We spend so much money on stupid mods but none on life saving phones! Unfortunately I lost my step father last fall. He was hunting in a SXS with my sister and he was ejected out in the Tucson desert, waiting there at the crash site for hours while another person went to try and phone for help.

    BUY. ONE.

Sorry to hear about your step dad

Already have one and I 100% concur. One of the reasons I like the In Reach is the ability to communicate via text with both my family and SAR. If I come across an incident like @StillNoPickles and have to alert SAR I can text my family to let them know it was not me when the call comes in from Garmin. I can also notify SAR to the extent of the injuries so they have a good idea of what they're heading in to. ACR while a very nice device that works on arguably a more robust SAR network does not have that ability so once you hit the oh shit button your emergency contact gets the call and has no idea what is going on leaving them in a panic until you can get communication back to them.

If any of you guys have Allstate pay attention to your renewal docs if you renew after 07/03 some enhancements coming to the auto policy most are improvements, but one of the biggest changes is custom equipment. It will now be an extra coverage and need to be added if you want coverage. You may want to schedule a review with your agent if you want your mods covered. This includes aftermarket wheels.

Not with All State but I should probably look into the specifics of mod coverage with my State Farm rep.

if anyone needs a State Farm agent, @snowtank ‘s sister in law is the absolute best. We swap vehicles a lot and she is the most helpful agent I have ever had. We email her our questions and she always responds quickly. Could not say enough great things about Chelsea. PM me if you need her info.

You should be shopping insurance every 6 months. Know what you get by being a loyal customer? Your premiums getting raised.

I shopped when I first moved to AZ because rates were significantly higher than the east coast. For me, it was not worth the few dollars savings to lose my $0 deductible policy. Switching to a $500 or $1000 would save me $6. My policy is older than I am, somehow acquired it when I swapped cars with my mom as a teen. I got Ryan to switch to SF and he saved money. They’ve also taken very good care of us with two accidents with his truck. For me, switching will likely never happen. I work at a company that provides insurance and the nightmares I hear, I’ll never acquire their services.
