And I would argue that McDonald’s burgers were bigger and better 25 years ago.

But apparently I only have anecdotal evidence...

No fan boy here. Why don’t people who dislike their Tacoma accept that some of us truly are satisfied with our trucks.

By the “McDonald’s sells a lot of burgers logic” we should all flock to the Ridgeline, since they sell hardly any. As far as being a Tacoma apologist, I’m just countering the points that some have made. The idea that people are leaving the Tacoma for the Ranger especially was hilarious given that the Ranger is looking to be a big loser sales wise.

Lol you do only have anecdotal evidence, the fact that you couldn’t counter a single one of my points and opted for a snide remark instead makes that particularly clear.

I think the better take on what's happening here (and it's not unique to auto forums) is that people don't like others talking negatively about something they love and have an extreme investment in. Human nature. I get it. But these trucks do suffer from a few known issues that detract from its overall enjoyment factor to many people. That's all. Not everyone. But enough to where it could be or become detrimental to the sales figures. Who knows, but for these issues and the posts here and on other forums, maybe sales are up 10%.

Anecdotal evidence, yes, but I got rid of mine primarily because of the 1800-2100rpm vibration and the lack of power going up grades like the Cajon Pass, I10 past Palm Springs and the Grapevine here in so Cal. Period. If those issues are important to someone else and they avoid the Tacoma because they read my posts, great. That's what the free exchange of ideas is all about.

Jealousy. I personally relish the bitter posts of every past owner who comes back here to trash-talk the Tacoma. They just can't help themselves, so delicious.

Nope. Sales is an outcome and therefore a backward-looking metric; it is a superficial way to draw conclusions.

Every quarter Toyota receives a string of forward-looking metrics that are stronger predictors of model health, like consumer opinion, purchase intentions (i.e., demand), conquest/retention ratios... Never mind; it ain’t worth it. You are clearly happy looking at sales...

If your looking at a golf then trade in that taco asap. No offense but the fact that you would even consider a golf indicates that you are not in fact a truck person lol. A hatchback? Come on man!

You’ve gone from pointing to a few people on a forum trading in their vehicles as hard evidence of a state of crisis for the Tacoma to explaining to me why sales numbers aren’t sufficient for defining reliable trends.

I’d love to see you finish the explanation you started before cutting it off with another snide remark (although I suspect there is no conclusion.)

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
This all depends on where you live --In Missouri private sales are the same - tax wise - as a dealer trade in. The big difference as anywhere you trade in the dealer nets an extra (avg.) 2500 -4000 bucks. where did you think made most of their money? If you thought new car sales - wrong -- its on the used ones.
I DO understand some states penalize the buyer -- but not here! Canadians?? I have no clue!

I miss my Tacomas, they are great trucks but they don't tow heavy well. I can't tow my fully loaded 4 place, 22' enclosed snowmobile trailer with 4 passengers through the mountains in a New England winter with a Tacoma without serious pucker factor. The full size is far superior for that task, what are you gonna do? Do I regret it? Not really applicable in my situation. I miss it, but no, I don't regret having the right tool for the job.

Weird statement....hatches and wagons provide more usable space than a sedan. Seems like a logical jump for a "truck person" looking at a fun to drive car.
