I appreciate that a ton! I have a lot to look forward to thats for sure. The depredation tag is one of the "Low hunter success expected" or whatever they say... I haven't looked into the harvest numbers in the past yet, but Id imagine its going to be a challenge. They want ALL the elk out of there, When I applied I thought it was just a hunt to reduce numbers because of the fire last year.

The Area 7 bull I'm still kind of in shock that I drew. Im so excited. My buddy got his out of The Mary's river area last year after a pretty tough hunt with LOTS of hiking. We are backpacking in around that same area and hunting for a week out of packs. I think he will have to get back to work if we can't find a shooter by then, and at that point my preliminary plan is to take my truck back up to "Elk mountain" area as there seems to be a good number of roads, and I can camp out of truck and go on day hunts by myself. I honestly probably don't have any business trying to get a NV bull myself as I have only been hunting big game for two years, but I did see quite a few animals in that area last year on a camping trip.

We got a cow out the Mary's river area a few years ago. That was the most fun I've ever had on a hunt. We walked our asses off, but had a great time. I think mostly because there is zero pressure on a cow hunt and there were cows everywhere. We watched a couple 340-350ish bulls battle it out over some cows, then a satellite bull tried to swoop the cows while they were fighting, but the bigger bull caught him. He pushed the satellite bull off, snagged both herds of cows and bounced. Both smaller bulls were left high and dry. We were about 200 yards away the entire time, it was awesome!

I’ll buy a 6 pack for anyone who can think of something off the shelf I can buy with minimal fabrication that will work similar to these roof rack mounts:

I would just go down to the metal supply place and get some 1/4'' or 3/8'' wall Aluminum Rectangle or square stock. They will sell it by the foot.

edit: kind of like this but with a single rectangle you wouldnt need the multiple pieces

What he said. Buy some square stock, cut to length, step bit the holes. Drink beer.

Does anyone have a factory bed mat I could borrow for a short bed? I just need to trace it on a piece of wood.

You guys ever hung out at this area right outside Yerrington, Mason and Weed Heights? It's quite a cool little playground with lots of hills to climb and a cool mine to dick around at. There's also a pretty awesome sand dune that's all bunched up in a corner. Thinking we should do a meet up / camp out there some weekend - and maybe a cleanup of the area too. I know it can look a lot better without all that junk around.

I actually grew up out there, and it’s a fairly decent spot. If you’re talking about the huge open pit mine it’s called Anaconda and there’s really no way in since it’s a superfund site and it’s pretty off limits. If you head towards the east side of the valley there’s black mountain, it’s a pretty cool sight up on top and there’s a mailbox with a notepad that people sign if they make it to the top. I’d recommend that, I took my fairly stock gen 3 up there just fine.

It's actually RIGHT next to Anaconda. It's slightly to the south of it - an abandoned one, but lots of structures left. I'd be down for this weekend, but the girlfriend and I are heading to sac to see some of her family :(

I’m going to try @excorcist idea. Just went to Reno Salvage and got some 1 1/4” 1/8 wall square tube. Which they cut for me and it was only $12. I think it will work perfectly.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Hey, where do folks dispose of their used motor oil in/around Reno? It's starting to stack up, and I'm coming up dry. Seems every auto parts store that is listed as taking the stuff always has a 'full tank', or some other excuse.

Of course I'm still debating the wisdom of 0w-20 in the new 4Runner vs 5w-30. I figure if they (Toyota) say it's OK in Puerto Rico, it should be good for the summer in Nevada. :D

What length did you get for $12? I need some fodder for the BabyMill(TM).
