I have a set of 17” trd sport rims (shown in profile picture) and I have a set of 1.5” spacers on the way as well as bilstein adjustable shocks (2.5”). I was going to go with a 285/70/17 tire but I have found a set of 285/75/17 toyo mts on Craigslist for a great price. Would these fit or should I stick with 285/70? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

285/70/17 is usually the go to for 17" wheels (33"). Not sure about the the 285/75/17. Regardless your going to have to do the pinch weld mod, and some cutting if you do not want any rubbing.

285/70 is typically a 33", the 285/75 is a 34" so you are definitely going to be modding and hammering

At that point, might as well go 35 and tub the body, too... lol

@taco21122, while you may see a "good deal" with those tires, it may not be worth it once you consider the amount of work it will require to get them to fit without rubbing.

The width difference between a 285 and 315 is huge on the 1st gen's. I ran 315's on stock width and it would rub the frame/UCA hard at full lock both directions. I went "down" to 285/75/17 and still Tub'd the new cab to fit the tires and only rub at extreme full lock on the frame.

I run 285/75/17 tires on every Toyota 4x4 I have and my camp trailer. Best size to run on all modern Toyota 4x4 platforms.

    IMO, that's the 255/85r16 - full 33, no tubing required. :D
